Avira Antivir Virus Definitions is a manual update package for compatible Avira antivirus installations on Windows. It refreshes the detection files used by the installed security software, including on a computer without an internet connection. The antivirus application performs the scanning; this package supplies updated detection components for it to use.
What the update archive contains
The update is assembled as a Fusebundle archive. Alongside the virus definition files, or VDFs, it contains the antivirus engine and the corresponding update control files. These components travel together in one archive, so a manual update can refresh the engine as well as its detection data.
Fusebundle Generator
The free Fusebundle Generator creates the archive locally. It gathers the update components on a connected Windows computer and produces a ZIP archive that a compatible Avira product can accept through its manual update function. This separates obtaining the update from applying it, allowing the receiving computer to remain offline.
Archive generation is incremental. After creating a bundle, the generator can incorporate subsequent engine and signature changes without requiring a complete archive download for every refresh.
Avira normally retrieves detection updates automatically in the background. The manual archive provides another route when that normal connection is unavailable; the installed product must support the corresponding manual update format.
