Overview

Leawo PowerPoint to Video is a Windows program that turns PowerPoint presentations into ordinary video files. A slideshow can then be played on a TV, phone or tablet, or uploaded to a video site, without PowerPoint on the viewing device. The current edition is sold as Leawo PowerPoint to Video Pro under a yearly or lifetime license. The free trial runs the full conversion but places a watermark on every output video.

The conversion uses a copy of PowerPoint installed on the same computer. It accepts PPT, PPS, POT, PPTX, PPSX, POTX and POTM files and keeps what the presentation already contains: slide transitions, animations, sound effects, narration and embedded movie clips carry over into the video.

Building the conversion list

Users can add presentations by dragging them into the window or through the Add button. There is no fixed limit on how many go into one list. Leawo PowerPoint to Video produces a separate video for each file in a single run. The list order can be changed, and a slide viewer on the right plays back the selected file slide by slide before conversion.

Slide timing, music and slide shape

Double-clicking a file opens its customization panel. A video cannot wait for a mouse click. The Timing setting defines how long each slide stays on screen before the program moves to the next one. The value can be saved as the default or applied to every slide of the presentation.

The Music section adds background tracks from the computer. Several tracks can be stacked and reordered. A separate Audio option tells the program to ignore the sound already embedded in the PowerPoint file. The Slide option decides whether the video keeps the presentation’s original aspect ratio.

Logo and video layout

The watermark tab places an image logo over the video. The logo’s position and size are set by dragging its frame in the preview. Its opacity can be lowered. A transparent color with an adjustable tolerance removes a plain background from the logo image so that only the mark itself shows.

The same window controls the area around the slides. Users can add a margin and fill it with a solid color, one of the included background pictures or an image from the drive. This frames the presentation when its shape differs from the video frame.

Output profiles and encoding settings

Leawo PowerPoint to Video organizes its targets as profiles. Video profiles include MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV, MKV, FLV, MPEG and 3GP, and audio-only profiles cover MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA and M4A. Device profiles target iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android devices, PSP and Xbox, while web profiles prepare files for YouTube and Vimeo. A search box finds a profile by name.

The Settings button opens the encoding parameters behind the selected profile:

  • Video: codec, quality, bit rate, frame size, frame rate and aspect ratio.
  • Audio: codec, quality, bit rate, sample rate and number of channels.

An edited profile can be stored under a new name with Save as and reused on later projects.

Conversion options and progress

A conversion tab selects which installed PowerPoint version handles the job and decides what happens when an output file with the same name already exists. After the user clicks Start, a progress panel lists each file with its progress and elapsed time. A preview option shows the video as the program creates it. Cancel stops the run.

Leawo PowerPoint to Video Pro does not cut, trim or rearrange slides on a timeline. Users make changes to slide content in PowerPoint before conversion.
