Software description

What Does WinMTR Do?

With this MTR, the user will receive ping and tracer route results. Unlike the regular 3 pin test you receive with a tracer route, MTR sends out a continuous ping until you end the test. You will receive the following information:

  • The percentage of packet loss
  • The number of packets sent and received
  • Latency test results

How Do You Install And Run WinMTR?

In most cases, WinMTR is used for troubleshooting. A prompt will appear if you are having issues with the internet or voice quality. The following will show the steps to downloading and running WinMTR. Any Windows platform is compatible with the software:

What Are The Pros And Cons Of WinMTR?

Pros:

  • Program is easy to use for most
  • Easy to download
  • Tool is powerful and easily locates problems.

Cons:

  • Lagging pings
  • Wireless interference
  • WiFi causing connection problems
  • Choppy audio

How To Interpret The Results?

Interpreting results can be a bit tricky if you are not familiar with the process. However, in a nutshell, the user is looking for something that continues to replicate to the end of the route list. High latency is only an issue if it is listed at the bottom of the route. The display will determine packet loss.

Additional Information

If you have tracer issues, there will be a display referring to “No raw socket found” or something similar. Be sure to check the following:

  • Ensure that you clicked Run as administrator application.
  • Certain firewall virus software can interfere with the trace. If this is the case, you will need to delete the virus software and reinstall it.
  • There are times when your system will need to be fully rebooted. Make sure all applications are closed before you perform this task.

Is This Software User Friendly?

It is user-friendly for people who understand the process. If you are a beginner, you may have some issues with interpretation.
