Choose the real target

Test one clip

A damaged header, protected stream, unusual codec, or missing system component can stop the import. Convert a short representative clip before placing an entire folder in the queue. Check picture motion, spoken-word synchronization, subtitles, channel layout, and the end of the file. Re-encoding is a lossy step for many common profiles. A second conversion from the first output can remove more detail, so the original files should remain untouched.

The editing area can trim a chosen time range, join several clips, resize the picture, and place subtitle text into the result. Total Video Converter can also separate audio and video streams or extract audio into its own file. These operations are useful for delivery copies, but they do not replace a multitrack editor with a timeline and nondestructive project history.
Joining clips with different dimensions, frame rates, or audio formats requires one common output. The conversion can add black borders, resample audio, or make motion look uneven if that common profile is poorly chosen. Put files in the intended order, test the transition between two unlike sources, and save to a new destination instead of overwriting the inputs.
Prepare a disc
Disc authoring is different from copying a video file onto optical media. Total Video Converter can prepare video for DVD, VCD, SVCD, AVCHD, or Blu-ray workflows. The chosen standard controls resolution, frame timing, folder structure, and player compatibility. NTSC and PAL choices can also matter for older television equipment.
A long program may need more space than the selected disc holds. Lowering bitrate can make it fit at the cost of picture detail. Burn one rewriteable disc or create the disc image first, then test menus, chapter order, audio, and the final minutes before committing permanent media.
Keep the source
Total Video Converter includes many profiles tied to older players and devices. That breadth can make the profile list harder to read, and a legacy label may not be the best setting for a current screen. Prefer a target the receiving device explicitly supports, then verify the output on that device.
Keep the camera original, recording, or master export outside the conversion folder. The converted copy is for a specific playback task. If the target changes later, a fresh conversion from the original avoids stacking another generation of quality loss onto an already compressed file.
