Uber App connects a rider’s trip request with a nearby independent driver who has accepted it. The request contains a pickup pin, destination, ride type, and payment method. Uber App estimates a route and fare, shows the matched vehicle, and tracks the trip after pickup. It does not dispatch a fixed bus route or guarantee that a particular driver or ride type will remain available before the request receives a match.
The pin names pickup
The pickup pin tells the driver where Uber App expects the trip to begin. GPS can place that pin on the wrong side of a building, inside a large venue, or near a road the driver cannot enter. Moving the pin and adding a short pickup note can prevent the driver from following an accurate map to an impractical door.
The driver’s arrival status follows the recorded location. That coordinate may not match the rider’s physical entrance, and wait time can begin after the driver reaches it. Check the plate, vehicle model, driver name, and map position before walking toward a car that only looks similar.
Fare follows the request
The upfront price uses the expected time and distance, current demand, and applicable tolls or fees. Requesting the ride accepts the displayed amount for the submitted trip. It is an estimate tied to that route and destination rather than an unlimited price for any journey taken after pickup.
Adding a stop, changing the destination, or taking a substantially different route can change the final charge. A long wait or an unaccounted toll can also affect it. Edit the trip inside Uber App so the driver and fare record use the same destination instead of agreeing verbally to a different route.
Matching can change
A driver can accept and later cancel before pickup. Uber App may then search for another driver, which changes the vehicle details and arrival estimate. The earlier plate no longer identifies the active trip after a new match appears.
Ride types depend on the local fleet and current supply. A larger vehicle or another requested option may disappear when no eligible driver is nearby. Repeatedly cancelling and requesting again can create cancellation charges without producing the missing vehicle type.
PIN checks the match
Verify Your Ride can generate a four-digit PIN that the driver enters before starting the trip. The rider can require it for every ride or only during night hours. A driver who cannot confirm the PIN should not begin the trip in the app.
The PIN does not replace the visible identity checks. It confirms that the driver and rider share the same trip record, while the plate and vehicle details confirm the physical car. Do not read the PIN aloud to someone outside the matched vehicle.
Status shares movement
Send Status creates a trip link with the driver’s first name, vehicle information, and the live position shown during the ride. A trusted contact can follow that link without using the rider’s account. Uber App can also keep selected contacts ready for later sharing.
The link contains current travel information, so sending it to a group or public chat exposes more than an arrival time. Share it with the intended contact and avoid forwarding old links as if they identify a new trip. The details belong to the active ride.
Reserve adds conditions
Reserve schedules a request before the intended pickup time where the service is available. It can include a reservation fee and a longer included wait period. Uber App may assign a driver before departure, but availability still depends on drivers near the pickup when the trip approaches.
The cancellation window differs from an ordinary immediate request, and cancelling after that window can create a charge. An early reservation therefore does not remove the need to watch the assigned vehicle and pickup status. Flight delays, a changed terminal, or an edited pickup time can alter whether the original reservation still fits the journey.
