Tipard MTS Converter is a Windows video converter for turning AVCHD camcorder recordings into files for playback or further editing. It accepts MTS, M2TS and TS footage and exports formats such as MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV and MKV. Its conversion controls work alongside trimming, joining and image adjustments, so the exported file can contain a selected passage or several clips assembled together. The software is commercial, with a trial available.
Tipard MTS Converter profiles and encoding settings
Several recordings can be added to the conversion list at once. The Profile selector provides output formats and presets for devices and video editors, including Apple and Android devices, Premiere Pro, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. A search field locates formats by name. Tipard MTS Converter also supports conversion back to MTS from other video formats, including MP4, AVI and WMV.
A profile sets more than the file extension. You can change the video encoder, frame rate, bitrate and resolution, including entering a custom resolution. Audio settings cover the encoder, sample rate, channel count and bitrate.
Modified settings can be saved as a user-defined profile and selected again for later recordings. A source video can also have several output formats assigned to it.
Clip assembly
The Trim control defines the portion of a recording to retain. Dragging the start and end markers selects a passage visually, while entering the two times sets its boundaries more precisely. The resulting conversion uses that interval, allowing a shorter excerpt to be produced from a longer camcorder recording.
Merge combines several loaded videos into one output file. The conversion list also provides rename and remove controls, and the destination setting determines where the finished files are saved.
Framing, color and watermark adjustments
Tipard MTS Converter separates changes to the picture’s framing from changes to its appearance. Rotation changes the video’s orientation. Cropping removes an unwanted part of the image, such as an edge or border, and aspect-ratio controls determine its proportions. Letterbox, Medium, Pan & Scan and Full zoom modes provide additional ways to fit the image into the output frame.
Brightness, contrast, saturation and hue controls adjust the picture before export. Volume changes the audio level. A watermark can add text or a picture to the video; text controls include the wording, font, size and color.
The built-in player shows the source and adjusted output before conversion, providing a way to compare the effect of the chosen changes. Its Snapshot function also captures a frame and saves it as an image on the computer.
Audio extraction
An MTS recording can be converted into an audio-only file when the sound is needed separately from the footage. Tipard MTS Converter offers MP3, WMA, OGG, AAC, M4A, WAV and AC3 outputs. The audio encoding controls set the exported format’s sample rate, channels and bitrate.
For video exports, audio-track and subtitle selectors determine which available track and subtitles are used.
