Tixati is a BitTorrent client for downloading and sharing files through peer-to-peer swarms. A torrent describes the files and their piece hashes, while Tixati exchanges those pieces with other computers that have some or all of the data. It also accepts magnet links, which identify a torrent without carrying its full file list. Tixati is not a search engine for licensed content, and it does not decide whether a shared file may be distributed legally.
Metadata comes first
A torrent file lets Tixati display the included folders before transfer begins. A magnet link starts with a hash and must obtain the remaining metadata from peers. Until that succeeds, the file names and selection controls may stay unavailable. A magnet that appears stuck can simply have no reachable peer carrying its metadata.
After the list appears, individual files can be selected or skipped. This matters for large collections because every chosen file contributes pieces to the transfer. Changing the selection later does not erase pieces already written, and partially completed files may remain in the download directory until the user removes them.
One port matters
Tixati listens on a selected TCP and UDP port for incoming peer connections. UPnP can ask a compatible router to forward that port, but router settings, carrier-grade NAT, or a local firewall may prevent the request. Downloads can still work through outgoing connections, yet fewer peers may be able to reach the computer directly.
The listening port does not need to match a torrent or tracker. Keeping one stable port and permitting it through the firewall is easier to diagnose than changing it repeatedly. A public listening port also exposes a peer service to the Internet, so the rule should target Tixati rather than opening a broad range for unrelated programs.
Upload affects browsing
BitTorrent uses upload bandwidth while downloading and continues sharing completed pieces while a transfer seeds. Saturating the upstream connection can delay acknowledgements and make ordinary browsing feel slow even when downstream capacity remains. The initial setup therefore recommends an automatic limiter or a deliberate outgoing cap.
A limit that is too low can reduce swarm cooperation and sometimes slow the download itself. Tixati separates global limits, per-transfer limits, and scheduled limits. Checking which layer currently applies prevents a forgotten night schedule or individual cap from looking like a network failure.
Peers explain progress
The transfer view exposes trackers, connected peers, pieces, files, and event messages. A torrent can report many known peers while connecting to only a few because some addresses are unreachable, busy, filtered, or no longer present. The availability figure is more useful than the raw peer count when the last pieces refuse to arrive.
DHT and peer exchange can discover peers without relying only on a tracker. Private torrents may forbid those discovery methods and depend on their named tracker. Enabling every discovery option does not override a private torrent’s rules, and changing privacy-related settings can affect membership requirements on a private site.
Queues need destinations
Categories can assign folders, priorities, bandwidth behavior, and seeding rules to related transfers. RSS rules can add matching items automatically. Automation saves repeated clicks, but a broad match may start an unexpected transfer and consume storage before anyone reviews its contents.
Tixati verifies downloaded pieces against the torrent hashes. That detects damaged or incorrect pieces, not malicious content inside a correctly shared file. Executables and documents still need the same source judgment and security checks as files obtained through a browser. When a transfer finishes, moving its files outside Tixati can also break seeding until the client is pointed to the new location.
