Overview

Backpack Brawl is a free-to-play inventory strategy game for Android and iOS, with Windows access through Google Play Games. Rapidfire Games develops the game, and Azur Games publishes it. You arrange equipment before automatic duels against other players’ recorded builds. The app offers in-app purchases and optional rewarded advertisements.

Heroes in a gauntlet

You begin a Backpack Brawl gauntlet by selecting a hero whose abilities and equipment shape the run. Ronan uses armor and thorns, while Chana applies elemental effects through mana-powered wands. Both starter heroes remain free; additional heroes unlock with gems or enter the weekly free rotation.

A gauntlet alternates shopping phases with fights, and each defeat removes one life. The run ends when you exhaust your lives or complete its win target. After fifteen wins, you can continue for up to five bonus rounds.

Bags beneath the equipment

Backpack Brawl separates bags from the equipment they hold. You first cover the grid with bags, then fit weapons, potions, and other items inside their available spaces. Purchased equipment initially enters a storage area below the backpack, where you can keep items while rearranging.

  • Item Mode moves regular equipment while leaving the underlying bags in place.
  • Bag Mode moves bags independently while keeping regular items fixed.

Bag shapes control the available packing space, and their passive abilities add effects such as armor or stamina bonuses. Tap an item to inspect its statistics, ability, and surrounding star slots. Placing a compatible neighbor over a star activates that bonus and turns the star gold. Each neighbor satisfies only one star on the item it touches.

Reserving shop offers

In Backpack Brawl, the shop offers five items at a time for the gold you earn during the run. Rerolling refreshes the offers, while locking an offer preserves it across refreshes and subsequent stages. You can sell unwanted equipment and recover the most recently sold item through buy-back.

Once banishing unlocks, it removes a chosen item from the shop pool for that run. Rerolls and successive banishes consume gold, so these controls share the currency that purchases require.

How recipes combine items

Backpack Brawl combines recipe ingredients through their placement. The recipe book opens from an item’s tooltip and shows the required ingredients alongside the resulting item. You place compatible ingredients next to one another; recipes with several components require the main ingredient to touch every other component. Guide lines distinguish potential combinations, incomplete recipes, and complete recipes that can merge automatically.

Locking an inventory item prevents a merge. A crafting boost spends gold to complete a pending recipe immediately.

Automatic duels

During combat, Backpack Brawl counts down item cooldowns and activates their effects when those timers expire. An activated item deals damage, heals, or applies an effect, then restarts its cooldown. Both builds act simultaneously without combat commands from either player. A fighter loses when health reaches zero; lengthy fights also introduce escalating fatigue damage.

You can reopen available fights from match history and change replay speed while watching. Replays only show the fight, and later changes to mechanics or item statistics can make older recordings unavailable.

Progress beyond each run

Backpack Brawl offers Ranked and Casual gauntlets. Ranked results change ratings and award trophies, while Casual avoids rank consequences. Trophy milestones open areas and add items to the available pool. Hero experience raises that hero’s level, unlocking equipment and permanent stat increases. Separately, item cards upgrade equipment outside matches, and those upgrades apply to every hero who uses the item.

During runs, scheduled boon selections grant passive effects that last until the gauntlet ends. Special stages also offer free Relic and hero-specific Unique items, although relic selection first requires a player-level unlock. Weekly Season Challenges earn Season Points and upgrade seasonal boons.

The seasonal reward track includes free rewards and additional Gold Pass rewards. Optional Membership adds a life per run, faster combat playback, extra hero experience, and an additional rotating hero.

Guild Treasure Hunts

Guilds in Backpack Brawl support chat, replay sharing, and cooperative Treasure Hunts. You contribute Treasure Maps through Ranked victories, adding them to a shared total that unlocks guild chests.

Growing the Wild Garden

The Wild Garden in Backpack Brawl persists outside gauntlets. You plant seeds, wait for growth, and harvest resources for animal visitors’ orders. Fulfilling orders awards rewards and garden experience. Higher garden levels unlock more plots, plants, visitor spaces, and upgrades.
