Overview

Bitdefender Mobile Security for Android separates protection into modules that react at different moments. Malware Scanner checks installed Android packages. Web Protection evaluates a destination when a supported browser tries to open it. Scam Protection examines links delivered through messages or notifications, while App Anomaly Detection watches installed-app behavior associated with credential or data theft.

These modules do not inspect the same object. A clean installed-package scan does not establish that a later browser destination is safe, and a warning about a message link does not delete the original message.

Cloud scanning needs a working connection

Bitdefender Mobile Security scans each newly installed app and can run an on-demand scan across the installed packages. Activation and in-cloud malware decisions need Internet access. An offline device cannot obtain a current cloud verdict merely because the last local scan completed.

App Anomaly Detection handles another stage. It monitors behavior associated with apps that try to watch activity or steal account information. Android can run the scanner while a permission-dependent real-time module remains unavailable, so the dashboard state matters beyond the result of one manual scan.

Web Protection depends on Accessibility and background execution

Web Protection needs Android Accessibility permission to evaluate and block dangerous destinations opened in supported browsers. A phone maker’s aggressive battery controls can stop Bitdefender Mobile Security in the background and remove the permission. The interface can then report that another service disabled Web Protection.

Repair requires restoring Accessibility permission and turning Web Protection on again. The device can also require an exemption from battery optimization. Menu labels and the exemption route differ by phone manufacturer, which means instructions for one Android skin may not match another.

Android Advanced Protection Mode creates a harder conflict. While that mode blocks the Accessibility permission, Web Protection and App Anomaly Detection cannot operate. Chat-related protection that uses the same permission also remains unavailable. The documented choice is between retaining the Android mode or disabling it so Bitdefender Mobile Security can receive Accessibility access.

Scam Protection checks the link before the browser stage

Scam Protection evaluates links in SMS messages and Android notifications. Its setup needs Accessibility and notification access. SMS inspection also needs the corresponding message permission. Granting one permission does not complete the other required paths.

A detection record can name the source app and show the time. It can also show the non-clickable address and threat type. Another field identifies whether the source was a text or notification. The warning leaves the original message in place.

If the user tries to open the destination in a supported browser, Web Protection acts at that later stage. Bitdefender Mobile Security therefore distinguishes a suspicious link at delivery from a browser request to visit it.

Anti-Theft needs enrollment before a remote command

Anti-Theft can locate or lock an enrolled Android device. It can also send a message, and supported devices expose a remote wipe action. Installing Bitdefender Mobile Security does not enroll Anti-Theft. The user must configure it from the dashboard card first.

Remote wipe has a narrower platform range than the other documented anti-theft actions. A device can therefore remain enrolled for location or locking while the destructive wipe command is unavailable on its Android release.

Clearing local data resets more than a sign-in screen

The official sign-in troubleshooting path can require clearing Bitdefender Mobile Security’s local app data before another attempt. Android then resets the local application state. The reset removes the previous local application state.

This description covers the Android product. The separate iOS product uses different platform controls. This Android description therefore does not establish how its protection modules work on an iPhone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it replace Android updates?

No. Operating-system and application updates remain essential security controls.

Why does the app request permissions?

Individual protection features need access to inspect apps, browsing, or device events; each request should be reviewed.

Why is no file size listed?

Google Play can deliver device-specific split packages, so a single exact size is not asserted.
