Bitdefender Small Office Security is a subscription security suite for small businesses using Windows PCs, Macs, Android devices, iPhones, and iPads. It combines platform-specific protection apps with a shared account for overseeing office devices. The Small Office Security plan has been superseded by Bitdefender Ultimate Small Business Security, which adds services beyond the original bundle.
Bitdefender Central and the administrator password
Bitdefender Central brings connected devices into one account so an administrator can check their protection status together. Its Activity area provides an overview of security events, and when threats are identified, the administrator can start scans on the affected devices simultaneously.
Small Office Security also provides a centralized administrator password for the Windows protection software. The administrator sets it through Central to restrict changes to Total Security features and settings on those computers. Employees can continue using their machines while changes to the protection configuration require that password. This settings lock applies to the Windows component; it does not extend to every supported platform.
Windows protection through Total Security
The Windows component is Bitdefender Total Security. Its antivirus protection checks files as they are accessed and examines received email messages. The scan controls can also cover scripts, network shares, and potentially unwanted applications. Archive scanning has its own size threshold, allowing the scope of that more demanding operation to be adjusted separately.
Advanced Threat Defense watches running applications and processes for combinations of suspicious actions. Activities such as injecting code into another process, modifying the Windows registry, or installing drivers contribute to a danger score. When the combined score crosses the detection threshold, Bitdefender blocks the application. The threat history supplies details such as the process location, threat type, and disinfection result.
Files that cannot be disinfected can be isolated in quarantine, where they cannot be read or executed. The quarantine view records each file’s original location and detected threat, alongside controls for restoring an item. Its settings also govern rescanning isolated files after threat information changes and removing older quarantined content.
Small Office Security on Mac, Android and iOS
Bitdefender Small Office Security uses Antivirus for Mac on macOS. Its browser protection extension blocks dangerous websites and flags unsafe links in search results, placing a warning alongside a result before the user opens that page.
On Android, Mobile Security examines applications for malware. Its Web Protection checks sites visited in supported browsers and blocks dangerous destinations, using Android’s Accessibility service to perform those checks.
The iPhone and iPad component uses a Web Protection filter for browsing security. It is a separate iOS application, so the bundle’s cross-platform coverage does not mean that Windows file scanning or Android application scanning is reproduced on an iPhone.
Safepay
For banking and other sensitive web transactions on Windows, Safepay supplies a dedicated browser separate from the user’s usual browser. It opens an isolated desktop environment and blocks attempts to capture its screen. A virtual keyboard lets users enter sensitive information without typing it through the physical keyboard.
Safepay can prompt when a banking website is detected, or users can open it themselves and enter a web address. Tabs and saved bookmarks support returning to account and shopping pages within that protected environment. Safepay belongs to the Windows protection tools in Bitdefender Small Office Security; it is not the browser supplied on Mac or mobile devices.
VPN
The included Bitdefender VPN encrypts traffic between a device and a VPN server. Websites see the server’s IP address instead of the device’s public address. The connection interface shows whether the tunnel is active, along with connection time and the amount of traffic protected.
Small Office Security includes a daily VPN allowance of 500 MB per device and connects automatically to the nearest server. Unlimited traffic and manual server-location selection require Premium VPN or a plan that includes those capabilities.
