DroidCam turns a phone camera into a webcam that computer programs can select for calls, recording, or streaming. The phone captures the picture, while the DroidCam desktop component receives it and creates a camera source named DroidCam Video. This is different from copying a video off the phone: the camera sends a live feed over Wi-Fi or USB, and the computer application consumes that feed as if it came from a webcam.
Pair both devices
Install DroidCam on the phone and the matching desktop component on the computer. For Wi-Fi pairing, place both devices on the same network, open the phone app, and refresh the device list in the desktop window. Network permission and multicast traffic must work for automatic discovery.
A school, office, guest network, VPN, or extra firewall can block discovery even when both devices reach the Internet. A Wi-Fi hotspot or USB connection can avoid that restriction. After the feed starts, reopen Zoom, Teams, Discord, or another camera program and choose DroidCam Video. An application already running may not notice the new virtual camera until it restarts.
Choose the connection
Wi-Fi keeps the phone free of a data cable, but it depends on signal quality and low packet loss. If DroidCam stutters or disconnects, the official troubleshooting path lowers the phone quality, turns off extra video options, and sets the desktop feed to 720p at 30 frames per second. Devices on separate network bands can also behave poorly when the router isolates them.
USB usually gives DroidCam a steadier path. Android setup can require USB debugging and a device driver. An iPhone connection may require Apple USB drivers and a trust confirmation. A cable that charges the phone but does not carry data will not complete the link.
Balance the picture
The desktop settings can request 720p or 1080p output. Higher numbers do not guarantee a cleaner meeting image. The phone must expose the requested camera mode, the link must carry it, and the computer must process it without falling behind. Some Android phones reserve higher frame rates or resolutions for their own camera recorder.
DroidCam always presents the ordinary webcam output in landscape. A portrait phone position therefore needs a rotation transform and a crop, or the Windows portrait-video path described by the publisher. Cropping removes part of the sensor image, so frame the subject after the receiving application applies its final shape.
Treat audio separately
DroidCam can carry phone audio when Enable Audio is selected, but the publisher warns that audio quality and latency vary and recommends video-only operation when the result is unreliable. A delayed microphone can drift away from the picture. Using the computer’s existing microphone often avoids another wireless stream and keeps echo cancellation inside the call application.
If sound and picture must both come from the phone, test them in a short recording before a live session. Confirm the chosen microphone as well as the chosen camera. Selecting DroidCam Video does not automatically change an application’s audio input.
Keep the phone awake
Continuous camera use creates heat and battery load. Some Android makers stop background camera transmission through battery optimization, which can end the feed after it has worked for several minutes. Connect power when the session is long and remove DroidCam from aggressive battery restrictions if the phone repeatedly suspends it.
A green output on the computer indicates a different synchronization problem. Exit the desktop component completely and relaunch it. If the green feed remains, restart the computer so the virtual camera output can synchronize. Repeated connection failure after that step points back to the cable, network, firewall, or phone permission rather than the meeting program alone.
