ExplorerFocus is a freemium Windows file manager from mBrothers. It combines profile-based folder trees, file previews, background operations, encrypted vaults, and remote connections. Its free tools handle local file management, while optional Premium activation adds specific remote, recording, reading, and editing functions.
Profiles with their own roots
Each profile holds a separate tree, filters, and remembered folder state. Users add filesystem folders or Windows Registry roots, reorder them, and switch contexts through tabs. Search accepts multiple wildcard patterns with OR matching. A separate global search includes only profiles that users explicitly enable.
Per-extension associations choose which application opens a file and persist across profiles. Folder commands open CMD, PowerShell, or Git Bash at that location; Registry roots can open in Regedit.
Operations and deletion
Copy, move, and delete jobs show per-file progress, transfer speed, estimated time, and an overall count. Users pause, resume, or cancel operations, with up to six jobs running concurrently. Name conflicts offer overwrite, skip, or duplicate choices, either individually or for the remaining job.
The deletion window lists the affected files and folder contents before users confirm. It offers the Recycle Bin or permanent deletion where available. Locations without a Recycle Bin offer permanent deletion only.
Preview in place
Selecting a file displays its contents alongside the list. Code previews provide syntax highlighting and folding, while separate renderers handle Markdown, PDF, Office documents, images, audio, and video. ZIP, RAR, 7z, and TAR archives open as read-only folders for browsing, previewing, and copying individual entries out.
Book previews show covers, contents, and opening text. Premium adds a reader with chapter navigation, page jumps, automatic scrolling, and remembered reading positions. It handles EPUB, Kindle formats, FB2, and CBZ/CBR comics. The reader rejects books with store protection. Book tools also convert between EPUB, PDF, and FB2.
Remote roots
ExplorerFocus places remote connections in the same tree as local folders. Free access supports one SFTP or FTP/FTPS connection for browsing and previews. Premium enables file operations, multiple connections, and WebDAV. Users upload, download, rename, or move files; editing a remote file locally sends changes back when they save.
Dropbox and OneDrive connections also require Premium. Authentication opens the provider’s OAuth page, and the application keeps the resulting token locally with Windows DPAPI encryption. Cloud folders load on demand as users browse them.
Vault content
ExplorerFocus encrypts vault file names and contents using the Cryptomator format. Users open it with a password or recovery words, then browse and preview files through on-demand block decryption. An optional drive letter exposes the open vault to other applications.
Opening existing vaults is free; creating them requires Premium. Premium also adds an encrypted Recycle Bin inside each vault. Users restore files or folders to their original locations, or empty that bin after confirmation.
Capture into the current folder
Recording controls select a microphone, camera, or screen region and save the result into the current folder. Camera capture offers MP4, WMV, and AVI. Microphone recording provides MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV, FLAC, and ALAC. Screen capture can include a camera inset or a split-screen layout.
| Capture | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Footer watermark | No watermark |
| Screen | Watermark, no sound | Sound and no watermark |
| Scanning | Flatbed with watermark | Document feeder and no watermark |
Scanning writes images or combines sheets into a PDF. Premium adds intro cards, text banners, and end cards to recordings. Its voice-over workflow keeps video and narration separate until users generate a final mix with background music.
Tools for selected files
The selected file activates its corresponding toolbar:
- Audio tools cut, split, join, and convert recordings, or write MP3 tags. Premium adjusts volume, speed, and silent pauses.
- Video tools cut, join, rotate, extract audio, and save frames as JPG. Premium adds shrinking, GIF output, reverse playback, and sound insertion.
- Image tools inspect metadata, crop, resize, rotate, and convert formats, including HEIC to JPG. Premium adds text recognition, redaction, joining, splitting, and transparent backgrounds.
- PDF tools merge documents or split them by page ranges. Premium adds thumbnail-based page organization, image output, conversion to PDF, and searchable text recognition.
Speech and translations
Free microphone dictation writes text files. Premium transcribes recordings to Word, PDF, or subtitles, and creates or translates timed video subtitles. Batch subtitle jobs can resume after stopping. It also translates books and PDFs. After users approve the model downloads, speech recognition and translation run locally.
Windows diagnostics
Disk details show model, firmware, and SMART information when the drive supplies it. The task view identifies processes holding files. The What happened tool asks about a problem and its timing, then reads Windows records and current machine information. It presents possible causes with evidence and provides a copyable report.
