Overview

Genshin Impact is an online open-world action role-playing game built around exploring Teyvat with a party of collected characters. The player walks, climbs, glides, solves regional puzzles, follows story quests, and fights in real time. A party normally holds four characters, but only one stays on the field at a time. Switching characters changes the available attacks and elemental abilities without restarting the fight. Progress belongs to the online account; Genshin Impact does not create a separate offline campaign that continues without a server connection.

Parties change roles

Each character has a normal attack, an elemental skill, and an elemental burst. The active character can deal direct damage, apply an element, create a shield, heal, or prepare an effect that remains after a switch. Party building therefore concerns the order in which abilities act, not simply the four highest character levels.

Equipment and character growth are separate. Weapons raise one set of statistics, Artifacts supply another, and Talents improve individual abilities. Replacing a weapon does not copy its level into the new one. Moving an Artifact also removes it from its previous owner, so one equipped set cannot support two party members at once.

Elements alter combat

Elemental status can remain on an enemy long enough for another element to react with it. Fire, water, ice, electricity, wind, earth, and plant-based abilities do not behave like interchangeable damage colours. Their pairings can freeze a target, spread an element, create a shield shard, or produce another reaction with its own conditions.

The order matters. Applying an element after another may produce a different result or use a different character’s statistics than the reverse order. Rain, shallow water, torches, grass, and elemental creatures can also supply part of a reaction. A rotation that works on one enemy may fail against an enemy whose built-in element changes the starting condition.

Ranks open systems

Adventure Rank records account progression and opens quests, activities, and other systems at set thresholds. Character level alone does not replace it. Experience for Adventure Rank comes from exploration, commissions, quests, and designated rewards rather than ordinary enemy defeats alone.

World Level raises the strength of enemies in the open world and changes the reward tier available there. When the account qualifies, Genshin Impact can lower World Level by one step. That choice starts a 24-hour wait before another change, so lowering it for one difficult fight cannot be reversed immediately after the fight ends.

Resin gates rewards

Genshin Impact uses Original Resin, an an account resource used to claim rewards from activities such as Domains, Ley Line Outcrops, and designated bosses. Entering or completing the battle is separate from paying Resin for its reward. A player can therefore finish a challenge and discover that there is not enough Resin to collect the material that motivated the run.

Story exploration and ordinary chest opening do not consume Resin. The restriction applies to particular repeatable reward claims. Planning character growth means checking which material is available, which activity supplies it, and whether enough Resin remains before repeating the encounter.

Guests enter one world

Co-Op Mode opens after the required Adventure Rank and quest conditions. Players must also share a regional server. The visitor joins the host’s world, so the host’s World Level and unlocked locations shape the session.

A guest can help fight enemies and enter eligible Domains, but cannot start the host’s quests, open the host’s treasure chests, or activate the host’s Teleport Waypoints. Gathering local materials can also remove those resources from the host’s current world until they return. Permission matters when several characters need the same regional item.

Some quests or active story steps temporarily block co-op access. Genshin Impact shows the restriction until the conflicting task reaches an allowed state. Leaving the host returns the visitor to the same account progress and inventory; it does not transfer the host’s map completion or opened chests.
