Overview

Heimdal Threat Prevention Home is security software for Windows PCs that filters malicious Internet connections and manages updates for supported applications. It combines checks on incoming and outgoing traffic with tools for spotting repeated contact attempts and keeping selected programs patched. These functions can run alongside an existing antivirus.

DarkLayer Guard traffic blocking

DarkLayer Guard blocks connections to infected or potentially dangerous web locations. This covers attempts to reach malicious content through browsing and requests made by software on the computer. Blocking a connection can interrupt access to a malware distribution site or communication with a harmful server, including traffic associated with phishing and data theft.

Heimdal Threat Prevention Home records the blocked address and when the block occurred. That history gives the user a specific destination to investigate when a website fails to open or an application repeatedly encounters a block. A domain whitelist allows exceptions, and an address can be removed from that list to restore blocking. Whitelisting changes how that destination is treated; it does not establish that the site is safe.

The interface also links blocked requests to the processes that initiated them. This moves the investigation beyond the destination address: a request from a background program can be traced to that program rather than assumed to have come from the browser. Notifications can report blocked communications, while Activity Reports show actions and their times.

Recurring requests flagged by VectorN Detection

VectorN Detection examines the blocks recorded by DarkLayer Guard for recurring behavior. Many requests to a blocked domain within a short period can indicate that software is trying automatically to establish a connection. Requests repeated at a particular time over several days can also form a pattern.

When it finds such behavior, Heimdal Threat Prevention Home displays a notification that the computer might be infected. This is an indication to investigate and run an antivirus scan, rather than a file-cleaning action.

Updating supported programs with X-Ploit Resilience

X-Ploit Resilience works with a catalogue of supported third-party applications. It identifies installed programs from that catalogue and shows their installed version and update status. Applications outside the supported list are not brought under update management simply because they are installed on the PC.

Two per-application choices determine what happens next. Monitor checks for a newer release and notifies the user when an update is available. Auto Update allows Heimdal Threat Prevention Home to install an available update for that selected program. A user can therefore monitor an application while retaining manual control over its updates, and allow other applications to update automatically.

The same area offers a catalogue for installing supported applications. Once installed, a program joins the monitoring and update list. An installation and update history shows what the updater has done, and the checking interval controls how often it looks for newly available updates.

Heimdal Threat Prevention Home alongside an antivirus

Threat Prevention Home is a paid product with a trial, separate from Next-Gen Antivirus Home. Its traffic blocking and application patching do not include that separate product’s file-scanning functions. Premium Security Home combines both products, adding the antivirus functions to the prevention tools.

When VectorN reports a possible infection, the warning identifies suspicious connection behavior, while an antivirus examines the files and processes involved. Heimdal Threat Prevention Home can supply the connection evidence and block harmful destinations while the antivirus handles malware scanning.
