Iriun Webcam turns a phone camera into a webcam source for a computer. It is a two-part system: the mobile app captures the picture, and the desktop component exposes that picture to calling or recording programs. Iriun Webcam does not record a meeting by itself. Teams, Zoom, OBS, or another video application receives the virtual camera and decides what happens to the stream.
Install both halves
The phone app alone cannot appear as a desktop webcam. Install Iriun Webcam on the phone, install the matching desktop component, and start both. When Wi-Fi discovery succeeds, the desktop window receives the phone picture automatically. The final video program then needs Iriun Webcam selected as its camera source, and its microphone choice may need separate attention.
This extra source-selection step explains a common false failure. A clear preview inside Iriun Webcam means the phone and computer have found each other. It does not mean the conference app has switched away from the laptop camera. Open that app’s camera settings and choose the Iriun device explicitly.
Connect by Wi-Fi
Wireless use keeps the phone free of a cable and makes it easier to place on a shelf, tripod, or overhead mount. The phone and computer need a network path that allows them to discover each other. Guest Wi-Fi often isolates devices even when both show the same network name, so the apps may remain invisible to each other.
Picture delay and stability also depend on the local network. A busy wireless channel can interrupt a high-resolution stream while ordinary web browsing still appears normal. Test the exact camera position before a live call, and lower the selected resolution when the network cannot carry the larger stream consistently.
Use a USB path
The Android listing also supports USB. A cable removes the Wi-Fi path from the video transfer, but it does not remove the need for the phone app and desktop component. Android USB connection can require device-side permission and an appropriate data cable; a charging-only cable cannot carry the camera stream.
USB is useful when wireless discovery fails or the network changes during a session. Confirm the source again after switching connection methods, because a video program may hold the previous virtual camera state until it restarts.
Set the picture
Iriun Webcam can use the phone’s camera at resolutions up to 4K, but the phone model determines the actual ceiling. Selecting the highest number is not automatically the best choice. It increases processing and transfer work, while many calls transmit at a lower resolution. Match the camera setting to the receiving program and the network rather than to the largest label.
Pinch zoom and mirroring change the framing. A mirrored preview can feel natural to the speaker while text in the outgoing picture needs the opposite orientation. Check the view seen by another participant or an OBS recording before relying on the preview alone.
Know the paid controls
The paid tier removes the watermark and ads. It also adds manual ISO, exposure, white balance, and remote camera control from the desktop. The free tier can still send the camera picture, but it does not place those adjustments in the same workflow.
Automatic exposure can visibly change when a bright monitor or window enters the frame. Users who need a fixed presentation look should determine whether the paid manual controls are required before mounting the phone out of reach. Iriun Webcam can work with the phone screen off, which saves screen power, but a long session still needs enough battery or a charging plan.
