Software details
Software Description
Nearby Share is a file sharing application created by Google. It is compatible with Android, ChromeOS, and Windows. People exchange photos, videos, documents, and links among the local devices. It employs Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or peer-to-peer protocols as the connection dictates. Local transfers do not need any internet. Devices should be connected to Bluetooth and location.
Cross-Platform Support
Nearby Share is supported by default on Android 6.0 and above and ChromeOS. Google also made a Windows beta. You are able to move files between phone, tablet, Chromebook or PC. Users can log in to the same Google account or visible mode. The process of file transfer starts once confirmed on both devices. The process is confidential and safe in terms of transfers.
Use and Access
You launch Nearby Share in the share menu or device settings. Click the file, and select a local device. The receiver device receives an accept prompt. The size of the file influences the speed of transfer. When Wi-Fi Direct or local hotspot is available, large files are transferred using it. Bluetooth is fast in transferring small files. The tool selects the most appropriate method automatically.
Privacy and Visibility
When sharing files, users have control over the people who can see their device. There are options of everyone, contacts, or hidden mode. You may make temporary visibility available in a limited time. The two gadgets should remain unlocked and near each other. Files that are transferred do not go to the cloud. Offline sharing of works is possible unless the source of files requires the internet. The Downloads folder allows you to check received files.
Device Requirements
Nearby Share is available on Android phones, tablets, and Chromebooks. The Windows version needs 64-bit Windows 10 or above. Both devices must have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and location services turned on. The users are able to give their devices names that are easy to detect. Background services should remain alive to discover quickly. The app is automatically updated by system or browser update.
