PostyBirb is a free, open-source desktop publisher for sharing multimedia and text posts across multiple websites. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The PostyBirb Plus application combines a common draft with separate options for each destination account. Supported services include Bluesky, DeviantArt, Mastodon, and Tumblr.
Connect each publishing account
PostyBirb connects to accounts through website logins or API authorization, depending on the service. Login connections use the cookies that the website creates during authentication. API connections require authorization before the application can upload content. Access can expire or end when the account owner revokes permission.
Each account has its own alias and login status. A draft can target several accounts, including different accounts on the same website. The destination selector determines which accounts receive that particular submission.
From files to individual drafts
Dragging several files into PostyBirb creates a separate draft for each file. The file creator also accepts an image from the clipboard. Text-only submissions, which the interface calls Notifications, cover journal and status posts on services that support them.
The editing form combines a title, content rating, description, and tags with the destination accounts. Website sections expose additional options for each target. Users can attach a thumbnail or additional files when the destination accepts them. Individual attachment exclusions control which accounts receive an additional file.
Save preserves changes within the draft; Save and Close returns to the surrounding view. Validation checks submission problems before posting. PostyBirb prevents changes to a submission while it uploads.
Descriptions with website overrides
A rich-text editor holds the common description. Each website section can retain that description or replace it with its own content. The {default} shortcut inserts common text into an overriding description, so the replacement can include shared material alongside account-specific wording.
Other shortcuts insert the submission title or tags. Custom shortcuts associate a user-defined name with reusable description content. PostyBirb expands these shortcuts when it prepares the description for posting. Custom shortcuts cannot safely contain other custom shortcuts.
Tags and reusable form content
Website tag controls can extend the default tag list or replace it. PostyBirb removes duplicate tags before submission. Tag converters map a common tag to a different value for a particular website. These conversions use case-sensitive matching.
Several reusable items supply different parts of a submission:
| Item | Content it supplies |
|---|---|
| Tag group | A named collection of tags for insertion into a tag field. |
| Description template | Reusable text for the description editor. |
| Submission template | Form options that populate a submission through Import Template. |
Bulk editing applies common and website-specific options to several existing drafts. Users choose the affected drafts and can preserve each draft’s default content while replacing destination sections. This distinction controls whether a shared edit also overwrites each draft’s individual description.
Prepare images for each destination
PostyBirb can reduce a primary image to meet a website’s image requirements when that destination supports scaling. The destination’s autoscaling option controls whether the program may make that adjustment. Settings limit dimension reductions and JPEG quality reductions.
The program prepares images for individual website targets rather than assuming identical requirements everywhere. PNG processing can switch to JPEG when PNG options cannot satisfy the file requirements. Thumbnail and additional-file support also follows each website’s capabilities.
Queue order and calendar dates
Drafts can enter the posting queue immediately or wait for a scheduled date and time. PostyBirb offers both a calendar and a list of scheduled submissions. The queue tracks draft order, while a submission can upload to multiple websites concurrently.
The posting view shows activity for individual destinations. Retry settings control another attempt after failure, and a separate option clears the queue when a post fails. Scheduling requires the application to remain running. The window can close while the application continues in the system tray; quitting the application stops scheduled posting.
Results, recreation, and remote access
PostyBirb separates successful and failed website results in its logs. Successful entries can provide links to the resulting posts, while failure details identify the affected destination. Users can inspect log data or download a JSON log file.
A partial failure leaves the draft available, and another attempt skips destinations that already succeeded. Recreate Submission builds an editable draft from a log entry. It reads original files again, so recreation cannot recover file content after those originals disappear.
Remote settings connect PostyBirb to another running instance over a network. The connection requires that instance’s address and authorization code. Test Connection checks whether those details reach the remote instance successfully.
