Read Chan is a 4chan reader for Android from Deezus. It combines board feeds, posting, thread replies, image albums and keyword filters. A free app and a separate paid app provide Android packages for the reader.
Boards become configurable feeds
Boards contain threads, and each thread combines an opening post with replies. Read Chan presents those discussions through catalog, list or album views. Catalog cards combine an image, thread text and reply or image counts. Users can switch between boards by swiping and dismiss pages with a swipe.
Feed Settings can use the default configuration or a custom configuration for the current page or board. The sorting control chooses which thread property determines the order:
- Bump time, latest reply time or creation time order threads by their activity or starting point.
- Reply count orders discussions by their number of responses.
- Image count orders threads by their number of images.
Reverse thread order changes the direction of that sequence. A separate display choice changes the layout without requiring a different sorting key.
Finding words and applying rules
Keyword search finds content, while filters apply rules to thread material. Each filter has a name and matching patterns, with a separate regular-expression option. Matching fields can include titles, comments, filenames, poster names and IDs.
Read Chan can restrict a rule to particular boards and choose whether it affects threads, comments or archives. Filter actions include highlighting matches and pinning threads. The enabled setting controls whether the rule takes effect.
Following a conversation
The thread display presents the opening post and subsequent replies with their post numbers. References identify the earlier posts that a reply quotes. A reference panel can display a post and responses alongside the image viewer.
History and Bookmark tabs provide separate entry points for returning to discussions. Opening Bookmark brings the thread collection into view. The app also supports new posts and replies, so users can contribute to a board or an existing conversation.
Thread albums and individual images
Read Chan gathers a thread’s images into an album grid. Selecting a thumbnail opens the individual image, while a strip of thumbnails provides navigation to other images. The viewer shows the image position within the album alongside dimensions and file information.
A separate gallery displays and manages images that users save. These image views sit alongside the text discussion and its reply references.
Creating a color theme
Color themes change the reader’s interface palette. Users can create their own theme or import another color scheme. Export saves the theme for later import.
