Overview

Steganos Privacy Suite combines two kinds of protection that ordinary folder locking does not cover by itself: an encrypted safe for files and a password manager for account credentials. It also includes browser autofill, password generation, and a shredder for deliberate deletion. Steganos Privacy Suite protects data stored inside its containers or keychains. It does not encrypt every document on Windows automatically, hide web traffic like a VPN, or recover a password that the owner has forgotten.

Create the safe

A safe is an encrypted container that opens as a drive in Windows. While it is open, compatible applications can read and write files through the drive letter. Closing the Steganos Privacy Suite safe removes ordinary access to the decrypted view while the encrypted container remains on storage.

Choose a location with enough room for the files and their later growth. A safe can expand as content is added, which avoids reserving its maximum size immediately. The underlying disk still needs free capacity, and a cloud-synchronized container can take time to upload after a large change.

Protect the secret

The safe password controls access to the encrypted contents. A long unique passphrase matters more than a memorable variation of another account password. TOTP-based second-factor protection can add another requirement to selected safes.

Encryption has no ordinary forgot-password shortcut that recreates the secret from the data. Store recovery material and the second-factor setup somewhere separate from the encrypted drive. A perfect container becomes useless to its owner if every access method is lost.

Store account entries

The password manager keeps login names, passwords, payment details, identities, and secure notes in an encrypted keychain. Its generator can create a different password for each service, while the browser extensions fill saved entries into recognized pages.

Autofill still needs the user to inspect the domain. A convincing phishing page can resemble a real sign-in screen, and a manually pasted password bypasses the protection gained when the extension refuses an unrelated address. Keep the browser extension updated and review imported entries after moving from another manager.

Synchronize encrypted data

Steganos Privacy Suite can place safes in supported cloud folders or network storage. The remote service receives the encrypted container rather than an ordinary folder of readable documents. This is useful for access across chosen machines without exposing the files as plain cloud objects.

Synchronization is not a backup by itself. An incomplete upload, deleted container, account problem, or conflicting write can remove access to the latest state. Wait for synchronization to finish before shutting down, and keep a separate tested copy of critical safe and keychain data.

Close after use

An open safe is intentionally available to the signed-in Windows session. Malware or another person using that session may reach the mounted drive just as an ordinary application can. Close the safe when the work ends and lock Windows when leaving the computer.

Network safes can accept work from more than one user under supported configurations, but simultaneous access increases the need for clear file ownership and backup. Encryption prevents unauthorized reading; it does not merge two conflicting edits to the same document.

Shred with care

The shredder removes selected local files and can clean free space where deleted data may remain. This is a destructive action intended to make later recovery difficult. Verify the target path and backup status before starting.

A shredded local file may still exist in a synchronized cloud history, another computer, an email attachment, or a backup. Steganos Privacy Suite cannot erase copies it cannot reach. Use the retention and deletion controls of each storage service when the goal is complete removal, and never test the shredder on the only copy.
