Total Commander Ultima Prime is a Windows software collection built around the Total Commander file manager. It combines a prepared file-management workspace with plugins, companion applications and tools for creating files, viewing content and handling desktop tasks. Its main purpose is to bring those operations into a configured environment where folders, file commands and related programs are accessible together.
File panels
The two-panel file manager provides the foundation. Each side can show a different location, allowing files and directory trees to be copied or moved between them. Tabs keep additional locations available, while the Directory Hotlist provides shortcuts to frequently visited folders. Total Commander Ultima Prime adds prepared button bars and menus for reaching its programs and tools from that workspace.
File selection can use names, sizes, dates or text inside files. Searches can extend across drives and into archives, and duplicate searching helps locate repeated files. For batches that need consistent names, the multi-rename tool applies rules to multiple entries or lets their names be edited together in a text editor.
Archives, file comparison and folder sync
Archives appear as browsable directories, so their contents can be inspected and copied out through the same file panels. The underlying file manager creates ZIP archives and extracts formats including RAR, CAB, TAR and GZ; plugins extend its packing capabilities. Files can also be copied directly between archives.
Content comparison addresses differences inside individual files, while directory synchronization compares folder contents, including subdirectories. Synchronization can also work between a directory and a ZIP archive.
FTP transfers
The built-in FTP client connects file management to remote servers. Downloads can run in the background or enter a list for later transfer, and interrupted downloads can resume.
Project structures with TC UP New
TC UP New extends the creation of files and folders beyond a single new item. Its list mode defines sets of files and directories with a hierarchy, allowing a repeated project structure to be created together. Existing files can be copied into a project as part of that operation.
Naming schemes control the names used for new files, directories and lists. Up to five custom schemes can be stored and switched through buttons or their context menus.
File previews
Total Commander Ultima Prime expands the information visible while browsing. Its custom columns cover general file information as well as audio, video and photo details. Thumbnail views include documents and comic archives, while preview support covers formats such as PDF, EPUB, MOBI and DjVu alongside multimedia files. These views allow content to be identified before opening an editor.
TC UP Opener selects an appropriate application according to the file extension. The collection also provides access to companion programs through its button bars, and text-file comparison in Notepad++ can be launched directly from the file manager.
Screen capture
TC UP Capture takes screenshots of the entire screen or a selected window and saves the resulting image to disk. Keyboard shortcuts can choose whether the saved capture appears immediately in a preview. Users can change the shortcuts and associated actions.
The same tool can take screenshots repeatedly at intervals measured in seconds or minutes, then stop the sequence through a separate shortcut. For recording moving activity or streaming it live, Total Commander Ultima Prime includes OBS Studio as a separate application.
Taskbar, power and backup tools
TC UP TaskBar lets a single pinned taskbar icon launch multiple file-manager instances. Its configurable context menu can hold favorite programs, locations and actions, extending access to the collection beyond the file-manager window.
TC UP Power schedules system actions such as sleep, hibernation, locking, restarting or shutdown. Customization tools configure the collection for individual preferences, while backup and restoration preserve its settings and included programs when moving to a new package installation.
Licensing the Ultima Prime collection
The Ultima Prime customization is freeware, but the Total Commander file manager remains shareware with its own license. Bundled applications also retain their individual terms, and some may restrict commercial use.
