Trend Micro Maximum Security is a paid security suite for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS. It protects against malicious files, unsafe websites and exposed personal information. Each platform uses an application with its own functions.
Desktop malware scans
Windows real-time scanning checks downloaded or copied files and suspicious program behavior. Controls cover ZIP and RAR archives, unauthorized system changes, and document encryption or modification. The scanner tries to clean infected files, deleting them if cleaning fails.
Quick Scan examines running executables, startup entries, shortcuts, hosts files and browser settings. Full Scan covers local storage and external drives, excluding network drives. Custom Scan checks selected folders.
Windows scans can follow a fixed schedule or use Smart Schedule to choose a time based on recent computer use. The Mac application offers Smart Scan for likely threat locations and Custom Scan for a chosen location.
Mac Full Scan checks files across the Mac, excluding encrypted or password-protected files. Threat handling progresses from cleaning to quarantine and deletion. Threats surviving those actions appear in logs for manual handling.
Mac users can change the threat response and its fallback. They can also set scan times and exclude selected files.
Folder Shield
Folder Shield restricts applications attempting to change protected data on Windows and Mac. Users select the folders it covers. Protection includes locally stored files in synced cloud folders, with access controls following those selected locations.
Windows supports synced OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox folders. Mac includes iCloud Drive, Google Drive and Dropbox. Applications needing legitimate access can be added to a trusted list so they can continue working with protected files.
Windows lets the user select permitted programs directly. The Mac application can unblock a program from its Folder Shield logs. Protection follows the selected folders and their locally stored files.
Web protection, Pay Guard and privacy checks
The Windows browser toolbar checks links and displays safety ratings before a page is visited. Its warnings help identify phishing pages imitating shops, banks or other services. Pay Guard opens financial sites in an isolated, protected browser window.
Pay Guard can ask before opening banking and shopping sites. Alternatively, the user can launch its browser through the shortcut. Transactions take place inside that window using the website's normal login and checkout controls.
Data Theft Prevention uses a user-entered list of specific information, such as credit card or bank account numbers. Enabling it blocks unauthorized exposure of those listed details. A password protects changes to its settings.
The Windows privacy scan examines signed-in social accounts or browser settings. It displays its findings and offers changes for the user to apply and save. The Windows suite also provides parental controls and PC maintenance.
Windows parental controls
Trend Micro Maximum Security applies family rules through Windows user accounts. Age presets select website filters, while Custom settings choose categories and rules for untested sites, search engines or images. A program password protects those settings.
Internet access follows a detailed daily timetable or separate weekday and weekend schedules. Parents mark blocked hours and set an allowance. They can also add installed programs whose access they want to limit on the family PC.
PC Health Checkup
PC Health Checkup runs alongside Windows security scans or independently. Users choose checks for vulnerabilities, unnecessary files, potentially incompatible programs and unprotected browser passwords. Results identify disk-space recovery, duplicate-file removal and delays for low-priority startup programs.
The maintenance tools also handle registry entries and browser cookies and history. PC Health Checkup cannot restore deleted files, cookies or history, although startup settings can be recovered. Smart Schedule can include tuning and malware checks.
Android scans and message protection
Android Security Scan examines apps for security, vulnerability and privacy concerns and supports removal of concerning apps. Real-time scanning checks new installations. Optional memory-card scanning extends the check to external files.
The history view keeps issues found by Android scans separate from received updates. Effective scanning needs an Internet connection. Pre-installation Scan checks Google Play applications and can block malicious apps or fake banking applications before installation.
Pre-installation Scan requires a screen lock and does not work for secondary Android user accounts. While enabled, its VPN mechanism conflicts with Miracast and USB or Bluetooth Internet sharing.
Android Web Guard blocks scam pages and warns about suspicious links in user-selected apps. It needs Accessibility permission for that coverage. Fraud Buster checks incoming SMS and MMS messages once its permissions and message-checking option are enabled.
iOS photo and link checks
On iPhone and iPad, Fraud Buster checks links in selected photos, screenshots or typed and pasted addresses. Camera Roll Scan accepts up to three photos. It reports whether a recognized link is safe, risky or absent.
An incorrectly extracted address can be edited and scanned again. Link Scanner returns a website rating or a No Address Found result. Screenshot checks depend on photo access and the screenshot-scanning option.
ID Protection and subscription coverage
ID Protection supplies the current password and identity service for eligible Maximum Security subscriptions. Its web and mobile vault stores named account entries with a username, password and optional notes. Password checks flag weak, reused or compromised credentials.
The password generator lets users select length and character types before copying and saving a replacement. Identity monitoring sends alerts when selected personal information appears in Internet or dark-web leaks. Exposed information can include account credentials or other identifiers.
ID Protection is included with Maximum Security in the United States and Canada. Maximum Security customers in other regions need a separate purchase for this service. The US plans also differ in device allowance and other included services.
Maximum Security adds mobile protection and eligible password and identity services to the parental, privacy and maintenance functions also offered in Internet Security.
