TrustViewer is a remote support application for Windows and Linux that combines desktop control, file exchange and conversations between connected computers. Its ordinary support sessions use a temporary session identifier, allowing someone to request help without creating an account. The base application is free for personal and commercial use, while optional cloud services have separate limits.
How TrustViewer support sessions work
The person requesting support shares the session identifier with the person who will connect. TrustViewer requires the remote user’s explicit consent and a selected access level before granting access. This makes the identifier part of a particular support session rather than a permanent credential for that computer.
During the connection, the helper can control the remote desktop and exchange files with the other computer. Text chat, voice calls and video calls provide ways to discuss the work within TrustViewer.
Partners can also be added to safe contacts for additional identification. This mechanism uses asymmetric keys generated for each communication session, giving repeat contacts an identification layer beyond exchanging a session ID.
Direct or relayed connections
TrustViewer first seeks a direct connection between the participating computers, using an encrypted tunnel for the session. Internet servers coordinate the connection. Direct access requires at least one side to accept incoming Internet connections or use a suitable proxy server. When a direct connection cannot be established, traffic can pass through an Internet server instead; available functions can then depend on the server’s load.
TrustServer is the separate, free proxy component for organizations that want their own connection infrastructure. It supports Windows and Linux servers and can handle connections from corporate networks. A public server can operate as an HTTPS proxy, while a local SOCKS5 server can be detected by the clients automatically.
Using a private TrustServer also allows TrustViewer to operate within a private network without Internet access.
TrustViewer.Cloud contacts and device limits
TrustViewer.Cloud adds account-based contact storage and permanent access to the owner’s devices. After registration and two-factor authentication, the account provides access to stored contacts and configured computers from other devices.
The free Cloud allowance includes ten stored contacts. Its permanent-access device limits depend on the connection route:
| Connection route | Free device allowance |
|---|---|
| Public TrustViewer servers | 2 |
| Private TrustServer | 10 |
| Local network | 20 |
Use beyond the free license terms requires a paid subscription. Cloud account data is stored in encrypted form, and a forgotten account password cannot be recovered. Creating the account again through the same email address loses its previously saved data.
Embedding the client and Pro branding
Software developers can include the TrustViewer client alongside their own application and launch it when a support session is needed. This gives a product a route into remote assistance through the existing client, including for commercial software.
Corporate branding belongs to the extended TrustViewer Pro license and compatibility mode. It can change the program’s design and display an organization’s own banner material on remote computers after a trusted connection is established.
