Overview

Ashampoo Photo Optimizer is a photo editor for Windows that corrects color, lighting and other image defects, either in individual pictures or across a folder. Automatic optimization analyzes each photograph, while manual tools let you change its tones, straighten its geometry and retouch selected areas. The paid Pro edition also includes LUT color filters, creative effects and image compression with a visual preview.

A separate Photo Optimizer FREE edition provides automatic enhancement and core editing functions such as cropping, resizing, rotation and printing. It also includes brightness and contrast controls, tone curves and selected effects, so basic correction does not require the paid edition.

How Ashampoo Photo Optimizer corrects photos

A folder browser displays photo thumbnails beside the selected image. Auto Optimize analyzes that picture and adjusts its colors, contrast and exposure; white balance and contrast-spread correction are applied when appropriate. A split preview lets you compare the original with the result, using a horizontal or vertical divider that you can drag across the photograph. You can save the adjustment or undo it after examining the difference.

Ashampoo Photo Optimizer can process all images in a folder or a selected group of thumbnails. Each picture receives adjustments based on its own characteristics. A batch can contain up to 1,000 images; larger collections need to be divided into separate projects. Processing can be canceled, and changes can be undone for a single image or the group.

Manual correction provides brightness, contrast and saturation sliders when the automatic result needs further adjustment. Separate shadow and highlight controls target dark or bright pixels, allowing you to change those tonal regions independently. Sharpening, softening and noise controls address detail and grain, with adjustable strengths for the selected effect.

Cropping, straightening and perspective

Cropping uses a movable rectangle with corner handles and optional fixed aspect ratios. Resizing changes the pixel dimensions directly or scales the image by a percentage. Rotation and mirroring handle orientation, while the horizon tool uses a baseline you position along an edge that should appear level; applying it rotates the photo to match that line.

Perspective correction addresses a different problem: converging or distorted lines caused by the camera’s position. You align markers with lines in the photograph and apply horizontal, vertical or combined correction. This transformation can crop edges or introduce empty borders, so its border controls determine how those areas are treated.

Portrait retouching

Red-eye correction begins with an area around the eyes, followed by circular selections over the affected pupils. The program changes the color inside those selections. Teeth whitening uses a brush whose size you control, so the adjustment follows the area you paint rather than affecting the entire face.

Spot removal similarly targets small marks with a sized tool. For repairs that need replacement texture, the clone tool copies image content from a selected source area into a target area. These controls give Ashampoo Photo Optimizer localized repairs alongside its whole-image adjustments.

LUT filters and artistic effects

LUT filters map existing color values to a different set of values, changing the photograph’s color treatment as a whole. Supplied looks include seasonal styles, vintage treatments and high-key or low-key effects. You can apply a preset to the selected image or add folders containing your own .CUBE filters to extend the collection.

Other effects alter the image more visibly. Aging treatments combine a chosen look with brightness and contrast settings; overlays and frames add surrounding or superimposed artwork. Oil-paint, charcoal and pencil-sketch effects change the rendering style, while posterization reduces the image to a selected number of colors. The preview provides a place to compare these transformations before saving.

Watermarks

Ashampoo Photo Optimizer can place text or an existing image over a photograph. Text watermarks support font, style and color controls, while image watermarks can retain their original proportions when resized. Both can be positioned and scaled on the photo, with opacity controlling how strongly they cover the underlying picture. This allows a name or logo to become part of the saved image.

Saving, emailing and printing photos

The Save & Compress controls combine output format and quality settings. JPG, WebP and PNG compression includes a live comparison and an estimated file size that changes as you adjust the settings.

For email, selected pictures can be reduced above a chosen dimension threshold and converted to JPEG before being attached through the default email client. Printing has separate controls for the number of images on a page, margins and layout, using either spacing between pictures or fixed image sizes. Save settings can also preserve the original file dates, helping keep chronological photo arrangements intact after editing.
