Becky! Internet Mail is an email client for Windows, developed by the Japanese company RimArts. It handles mail from several accounts in one window. It also adds tools for tracking messages that need a reply, scheduling reminders and running the whole program from a USB drive. Becky! is shareware: a trial period lets you use the full program. After that, you need a license to keep using it.
Mailboxes, profiles and accounts
Becky! organizes mail into mailboxes. You can create several mailboxes, so personal and work mail can stay separate. Inside a mailbox you can create several profiles and switch between them with one click. A typical use is a work profile that checks mail often over a fast network and a home or travel profile that does not check automatically.
Becky! Internet Mail is built to stay responsive with folders that hold tens of thousands of messages.
POP3, IMAP and secure sign-in
Becky! receives mail over POP3 or IMAP4 and sends it over SMTP, with SSL/TLS or STARTTLS encryption. For IMAP accounts, Becky! supports server push through IDLE, and can keep the Trash, Draft and Sent folders on the server. A local cache lets you read IMAP folders offline; messages deleted while offline go to Trash once the connection returns.
Gmail and Microsoft 365 accounts can sign in with OAuth2 instead of a stored password.
Filtering Manager
The Filtering Manager sorts incoming mail with rules. A rule checks headers, attachment file names or address groups. You can combine conditions with AND or OR or write them as regular expressions. The Filtering Manager can move or copy matching messages to a folder, mark them as read, give them a color label, or forward them. A quick shortcut creates a rule directly: hold Alt while dragging a message onto a folder. Filters work on both POP and IMAP mail.
A separate mailing list manager keeps track of lists you subscribe to and can set up a list from its announcement message.
Writing HTML or plain text mail
You can write messages as plain text or HTML. You can compose HTML mail in a built-in inline editor or hand the message to an external editor such as Microsoft Word. Becky! displays incoming HTML with the Chromium-based Edge engine, with an option to switch back to the older Internet Explorer engine. Each folder can control whether HTML is rendered and whether remote images are downloaded. Links to external sites trigger a warning to reduce phishing risk.
Before sending, a recipient confirmation dialog lists addresses and attachments and warns about executable files.
Templates with macros
Becky! stores frequently used text, including HTML layouts, as templates for new messages, replies and forwards. Templates accept macro codes that fill in the original subject, the quoted body or the sender’s name from the address book. You can set up signatures and reply templates for more than one language.
Reminders, tasks and agents
A reminder is a message scheduled for a future date. When the time comes, Becky! Internet Mail can drop it into the Inbox, open it for editing, or move it to the Outbox to be sent. Reminders can repeat, for example on chosen weekdays.
Tasks handle follow-up work that is not urgent. You can tag a message as needing a reply, needing to be sent, waiting for a reply, or as a topic to follow. It then appears in the Tasks folder with a color showing urgency. You can assign agents to these messages to keep watch over the tasks. Becky! can clear old tasks automatically after a set number of days.
Queries and saved searches
The Query dialog searches one mailbox or all of them by sender, date, flag, attachments, memo text and other criteria. You can save a search as a query folder in the folder tree. It acts as a virtual folder that refreshes its results automatically. For quick lookups, a headline search box in the main window checks the From, To, Cc and Subject fields.
Private memos attached to messages can be searched too.
Address book
The Becky! address book stores contacts as vCard entries. You can organize it into groups that work as recipient lists. You can synchronize contacts with a CardDAV server, including Gmail contacts, and look them up in an LDAP directory. Import and export use CSV.
Portable copies on USB drives
The sync with portable media function copies the program and selected mailboxes to a USB drive or a laptop. The portable copy does not write to the Windows registry, so it can run on another PC and leave little behind. Changes made on the portable copy are later synchronized back to the main computer.
Plug-ins and data exchange
A plug-in interface lets outside developers add features and RimArts publishes a plug-in SDK. Plug-ins add encryption: S/MIME comes as a separate plug-in from RimArts, and plug-ins also provide PGP support. You can import and export messages as mbox or EML files to move mail in and out of Becky! Internet Mail.
