CCleaner Browser is a free web browser for Windows with built-in controls for advertising, tracking, browsing data and harmful websites. Alongside opening web pages, it lets you decide which content they can load, remove information retained from past visits and limit the resources used by inactive tabs. Its Security & Privacy Center brings the browser’s protection settings and cleanup tools together.
CCleaner Browser’s Performance Manager
CCleaner Browser can automatically suspend tabs that remain unused in the background. The behavior depends on the computer’s available memory, reducing the CPU and memory devoted to pages you are not currently viewing. Performance Manager provides the settings for this background-tab handling.
The same settings area controls battery-saving behavior. When a laptop’s battery runs low, the browser can reduce its processor and memory use.
Privacy Guard
Privacy Guard checks the scripts a website runs against filter lists to determine which advertising and tracking content it can load. Basic Blocking removes intrusive advertising, including pop-ups and automatically playing videos, and blocks known trackers. Balanced Blocking extends that selection to social media ads.
Strict Blocking covers a wider set of ads and trackers, blocks push notifications and prevents browser fingerprinting. Fingerprinting identifies a browser from its configuration and other characteristics, giving websites another way to recognize visits beyond cookies. The stricter setting can interfere with page loading and may make some websites inaccessible.
Private Mode and Privacy Cleaner
Private Mode changes what CCleaner Browser retains from a browsing session. It prevents browsing history from being stored on the device and removes the tracking cookies and cached web content acquired during that private session.
Privacy Cleaner works on information already stored by the browser. You can select a time range and choose which types of browsing data to clear, including history, cookies and cached images. Basic and Advanced views provide the available selections.
Automatic cookie banner responses
Cookie Consent Manager handles the consent banners displayed by websites. It detects a banner and applies automation rules according to your preferences, such as choosing to deny optional cookies or accept only those required by the site. A banner may appear briefly while the feature processes it.
Unusual banner layouts and website implementations can prevent the intended choice from being made. Cookie Consent Manager therefore handles consent interactions, but the cookies a website ultimately stores still depend on how that site responds to them.
Hiding personal details while screen sharing
Screen Sharing Mode controls which personal details remain visible in the browser interface when you show it to other people. Its customization switches can hide the bookmarks bar, extensions, search history, profile icon, tab previews and toolbar icons. You choose the elements to conceal, and a blue Screen Sharing status indicates that the mode is active.
This addresses information exposed by the browser’s surrounding interface, such as a personal bookmark collection appearing beside a work page.
Web Shield
Web Shield blocks malicious websites, phishing attempts and potentially harmful downloads. It is enabled by default. Security Check reports how many malicious downloads, phishing attempts and malicious sites the browser has blocked, and provides recommended actions when it detects a security issue.
Extension Guard also starts enabled and prevents untrusted extensions, add-ons and plug-ins from being installed in CCleaner Browser.
Password manager selection
CCleaner Browser includes password management for keeping login details together and filling them into websites. The Password Managers tile provides a drop-down selection for choosing which password manager to use, connecting saved credentials with the browser’s sign-in workflow.
