Cisco Webex Meetings is a video conferencing application for Windows and macOS that brings participants into online meetings with voice, camera video, and shared content. Hosts can arrange a session in advance or start one immediately, while invited guests can also join through a browser. The meeting combines conversation with a presentation area, so attendees can discuss a document, watch an application demonstration, or work on a shared whiteboard.
Inviting participants
A meeting scheduled with Cisco Webex Meetings has joining details that participants receive in an email invitation. The invitation supplies the meeting link and, when required, its password. Hosts manage upcoming sessions through their Webex account; attendees can join from a meeting link without creating an account.
For repeated conversations, a Personal Room provides a meeting address that stays the same. The host can share that address with colleagues and start a session in the room. The room can be locked to prevent uninvited people from joining. During a meeting, the Participants panel shows who has arrived, and the host can invite additional attendees.
Joining with audio and video
Before joining, Cisco Webex Meetings displays a preview where participants choose their microphone, speakers or headset, and camera. Computer audio carries the conversation through those selected devices. Where the account supports telephone audio, participants can dial in or request a call to a chosen number. Someone using a computer only to present in a meeting room can join without connecting its audio.
Microphone and camera controls remain available during the session. A participant can join muted or with video off, then enable either when needed; hosts can also restrict whether attendees may unmute. The camera settings include background blur or replacement, and selected audio and video preferences can be saved for later meetings.
What attendees see when sharing
The choice of sharing surface determines what the audience sees. Sharing an entire screen shows its visible content, while application sharing confines the presentation to the selected application. If another application covers it on the presenter’s desktop, attendees continue to see the shared application. Participants can present content as well as the host.
Cisco Webex Meetings also accepts individual files for display inside the meeting window. A document can therefore become the shared presentation without exposing the rest of the desktop. For a PowerPoint presentation containing embedded video, application or screen sharing is the appropriate alternative when file sharing cannot play it correctly.
Video playback has a separate motion-and-video optimization setting. The presenter can include computer audio, allowing the audience to hear the clip through the meeting instead of relying on a microphone to pick up speaker sound. A preview of the shared content lets the presenter check the view being sent to everyone else.
Whiteboards
A shared whiteboard gives participants a drawing surface within the conversation. Text and graphic tools let the group develop an idea together. Participants can also mark up shared material, keeping annotations beside the document or subject being discussed.
Recordings and Webex plan limits
Cisco Webex Meetings records audio, video, and the presentation for later viewing. Participants see an indicator while recording is active. With a free account, recordings are saved to the computer; cloud recording, when included in the account, places the recording in User Hub and sends the host a link after processing.
The free Webex plan supports meetings of up to 40 minutes with up to 100 attendees. Paid plans extend meeting duration and participant capacity, so those limits depend on the host’s subscription.
