eM Client is a desktop email and calendar application for Windows and macOS, with companion apps for iOS and Android. It brings mail, calendars, tasks, contacts, notes and chat into a single workspace and connects to standard email services rather than a single provider. You can download and use the application free for home use. Paid Personal and Business licenses lift account limits and add productivity and support features.
Accounts and supported services
eM Client works as a general email client that connects to any standard email service. It has setup paths for Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com and Exchange alongside generic IMAP, POP and SMTP accounts. Several accounts can run side by side, with their calendars, contacts and tasks synchronized back to each service. For people who want to keep work and personal mail fully apart, Profiles split accounts into separate databases. Each has its own settings and color, so the two never share a mailbox view.
Sorting and triaging the inbox
Inbox Categories can separate incoming mail into groups, keeping conversations you care about apart from updates, newsletters and other routine mail. Superfast Search locates messages and the information inside them across accounts. Two triage tools help clear a crowded inbox. Snooze removes a message from view and returns it at a chosen time. Watch for Replies flags messages you are expecting answers to so follow-ups do not slip through. Quick Actions let you build shortcuts that automate routine handling of a message. For example, they can move, categorize or reply in a defined sequence, turning repeated steps into a single action.
Composing messages
When writing mail, eM Client provides reusable Templates and Signatures, plus Quick Texts for inserting frequently used passages without retyping them. A spell-checker runs as you type, and built-in translation can convert the text of a message, which is useful for correspondence across languages.
Calendar, tasks and contacts
The calendar manages events across the connected accounts, and eM Client keeps tasks in the same application rather than a separate tool. The contextual Sidebar supports this work. Its Agenda shows upcoming events, tasks, birthdays and mail that still needs handling. The Calendar tab gives a view of the current day’s events, and the Invitations tab collects event invites you have not yet answered. eM Client manages contacts centrally. When you select a contact, the Sidebar’s Communication tab shows past email and chat exchanges with that person. The Attachments tab lists files traded with them. A Notes feature holds free-form information inside the same workspace.
Chat and channels
eM Client includes integrated chat so messaging sits next to email. It supports multichat with several people at once and channels comparable to those in team-messaging tools. You can open and read replies in those chats and channels through the Sidebar’s Threads tab.
Message encryption
For confidential mail, eM Client can encrypt and digitally sign messages using S/MIME or PGP, which protects message contents and lets recipients verify the sender.
AI assistance
An optional AI layer works inside the application. An AI Assistant in the sidebar helps manage the inbox. AI Summary condenses longer messages so you can catch up quickly. Writing help drafts replies and composes messages, including shortening, proofreading or changing the tone of text. The application also offers natural-language search and AI-generated rules. You can turn dates or to-dos in a message into calendar events and tasks. The AI features run through a paid add-on or your own connected AI provider. eM Client also supports the MCP protocol so an external AI agent can connect to its data.
Working faster
A Command Palette lets you find and run any action by typing, keeping work on the keyboard. The interface supports a dark theme, user-created custom themes and a theme editor, and it handles touchscreens with swipe gestures. The application is localized in 20 languages.
Sync and backup
eM Sync carries accounts, application settings, signatures, templates and Quick Texts across devices, protected with zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption. A built-in backup runs automatically and can capture data while the application is still running. This creates a copy without closing the program.
Account limits and Personal or Business licenses
The free license is intended for home use on one device and allows up to two email accounts, with support through the community forum. The Personal license covers one person across several devices with unlimited email accounts and adds Snooze, Quick Actions and VIP Support. The Business license is for commercial use, with licensing per device. It keeps unlimited accounts and adds a license manager and volume options. The iOS and Android apps are free and do not require a license.
