eScan Internet Security Suite is security software for Windows home and small-office computers. It combines malware scanning with controls over network connections, removable devices, applications and website access. Separate modules handle email filtering, local browsing traces and an additional authentication step for Windows sign-in.
Real-time monitoring and on-demand scans
The suite monitors the computer continuously for malicious software, while its Proactive Behavioral Analysis Engine examines process activity for suspicious behavior. This behavioral analysis also works offline. Its ransomware protection includes an Intelligent Shadow Backup mechanism that can activate when an attack is detected, alongside the process monitoring used to identify threats.
On-demand scans give you a separate way to examine existing data. You can scan the whole computer, memory and services, an attached USB drive, a CD-ROM or a custom selection. Automatic scheduling handles recurring checks, and scan logs retain the results for inspection.
The scan settings also determine what happens to an infected file. Automatic handling attempts to disinfect it and can quarantine or delete it when cleaning is unsuccessful. Other settings let you log detections or delete infected files directly. Scan priority can be set to high, normal or low.
Two-way firewall rules
The two-way firewall inspects incoming and outgoing network requests. Its filtering modes determine whether connections pass freely, follow configured rules or require user intervention. The modes are Allow All, which is the default, and the Limited and Interactive filters.
Application rules govern network access for individual programs. Zone rules and trusted addresses also define permitted traffic. This lets eScan Internet Security Suite distinguish an application’s internet connection from a request arriving at the computer.
Application and USB device control
Endpoint Security controls which applications can run and which portable devices can be used. You can permit or block programs and restrict removable storage, including USB devices. A read-only USB setting allows access without permitting changes to the drive, while separate controls cover device access and autoplay.
Reports show allowed and blocked applications and portable devices, giving you a record of those decisions.
Mail filtering
Mail Anti-Virus checks messages and attachments for malicious content. Incoming mail is scanned by default, with outgoing scanning available through its settings. Notifications can inform a sender or administrator when an infected message or attachment is received.
The Anti-Spam module filters junk messages and provides access to quarantined mail and reports. Its scope excludes email accounts accessed through a browser-based mail service.
Web profiles
eScan Internet Security Suite assigns web access settings through user profiles. A profile can allow or block website categories, and its settings can be edited for the selected user. Keyword and phrase filtering adds content-based restrictions to the category choices.
This gives people sharing a Windows computer different browsing permissions. The web module also includes phishing and malicious-URL filters.
Login authentication
The suite can require a time-based one-time password after the normal Windows login credentials. An authenticator on an Android or iOS device supplies that additional code. Its clock must agree with the computer’s clock for the code to validate.
Privacy cleanup
Privacy Control addresses information left on the computer after browsing. Its Browser Cleanup function removes temporary browsing information and records of visited pages.
eScan Anti-Virus, Internet Security and Total Security
Internet Security includes parental control, login authentication, privacy cleanup and device controls that are absent from the base eScan Anti-Virus edition.
Total Security Suite adds a different set of tools, including a data vault, anti-theft functions, a registry cleaner and disk defragmentation. Those tools belong to that higher edition and are not included in eScan Internet Security Suite.
