F-Secure Total Security, now sold under the name F-Secure Total, is a paid consumer security suite from the Finnish company F-Secure. One subscription combines malware protection, scam and phishing defenses, a personal VPN, a password manager and identity monitoring. It runs on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, and a single subscription can cover several devices across those platforms. F-Secure offers a 30-day trial before purchase.
F-Secure Total manages these layers together, so one app on each device shows the state of every protection.
Malware and ransomware protection
On computers, F-Secure Total scans files and applications for viruses, trojans, spyware, infostealers and ransomware, along with apps that try to steal or lock personal data. Automatic and scheduled scans run in the background.
Detection is not limited to known samples. On Windows and Mac, a behavior-based engine called DeepGuard watches what programs actually do. AI-assisted cloud analysis can check suspicious files. Ransomware protection is a separate layer aimed at programs that try to encrypt a user’s files and hold them for payment.
Scam and phishing defenses
A large share of F-Secure Total deals with fraud rather than malicious code. It intervenes in the browser and on incoming messages before the user hands over money or credentials.
Browsing, shopping and banking
Browsing protection compares visited sites with known malware and scam addresses and blocks matching pages, showing a warning instead of the page. Color-coded search results mark suspicious links before users click them. Shopping protection rates online stores in real time against a trust database, alerting on untrusted shops and blocking known malicious ones.
Banking protection confirms that the browser is on a legitimate bank or payment site and blocks fake sites and untrusted connections. On Windows it goes further during an open banking session. It cuts untrusted network connections and stops remote access tools that scammers use to take over a computer.
Messages, ads and cookie prompts
On iOS and Android, SMS scam protection uses AI-based detection to move harmful text messages to the junk folder. On these platforms, phishing protection checks links that arrive in emails and texts before the target page opens. On Windows, Mac and iOS, F-Secure Total includes an ad blocker, which also removes fake ads used in scams. On the same platforms, a cookie popup blocker automatically rejects non-essential cookies on sites that use common consent providers.
Personal VPN
The VPN in F-Secure Total encrypts the device’s internet traffic and hides the real IP address from websites and the internet provider. Traffic is unlimited. Its main purpose is protection on public Wi-Fi, where others on the same network could otherwise read unencrypted traffic.
- Virtual location: the user chooses an exit point in one of more than 20 countries.
- Kill switch: on Windows, Mac and Android, the kill switch blocks internet access if the VPN connection briefly drops.
- Trusted networks: on Windows and Android, chosen Wi-Fi networks such as a home network can bypass the VPN.
F-Secure states that it keeps no traffic logs and does not sell or share users’ traffic. The VPN is unavailable in China and certain Middle Eastern countries.
Passwords and identity monitoring
The password manager stores logins in a vault that syncs across the user’s devices. It generates strong, unique passwords for new accounts and fills saved usernames and passwords on sign-in pages. A password analysis on desktop flags stored passwords that are weak, common or reused across several accounts.
Identity monitoring runs around the clock, combining dark web monitoring with human analysts who track data breaches. It can monitor up to 10 items in total, including email addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers and passport numbers. When one of these items turns up in a breach, F-Secure Total sends an immediate alert with advice tied to the exposed data type. Gaming Mode and device management
On Windows PCs, Gaming Mode frees system resources while a game runs. It suspends notifications and Windows pop-ups, postpones product updates and holds back automatic and scheduled scans, while essential protection stays active. Users can check and manage protection on each covered device remotely through the My F-Secure account.
F-Secure Total compared with the standalone products
F-Secure also sells the suite’s components individually. The scam protection set is the same in F-Secure Total and Internet Security; the differences lie in the VPN and identity features.

Platform support differs by feature. Windows and Mac get the fullest set, including DeepGuard and password analysis. Message-based scam filtering is limited to iOS and Android.
