Google Keep App is a note and list service for collecting text, pictures, drawings and recordings. It works in a computer browser and through apps for Android, iPhone and iPad. Notes synchronize across devices, letting you return to material captured on a phone when working at a computer.
Text, images and voice recordings
A Keep note can combine a title with text and attached images. You can start with a photograph, add an explanation beneath it, or attach several images to an existing note. On a computer and Android, text formatting includes bold, italic and underline, along with heading styles for dividing a longer note into smaller subjects.
The Android app also records spoken notes. The recording stays available for playback within the note and can be removed separately.
Drawings
Google Keep can save a drawing on its own, attach one to an existing note or let you draw over an image. Pen, marker and highlighter tools offer different kinds of strokes, with adjustable colors and sizes. Selection and eraser tools let you alter the drawing, while grid and ruled backgrounds provide guides for handwriting or a sketch.
Checklists
Lists give individual entries checkboxes, so a shopping list or collection of tasks can record what has been completed. You can also turn an existing text note into a checklist. Entries can be dragged into a different order or indented beneath another entry to group related items.
An optional Gemini feature generates a list from a written request. You describe the list you want, review the proposed entries, and can revise the request and regenerate them before inserting the result into Keep. This feature is available with a Google AI plan; access on Pixel devices can be subject to Gemini usage limits.
Organizing and searching notes
Labels give notes named categories, while colors and backgrounds provide visual distinctions. Keep supports up to 50 labels, and a note can carry more than one. Pins place selected notes at the top of the feed, keeping frequently used lists within reach.
Search works with words and label names. Filters narrow the results by note type, color, subject category or the people a note is shared with. For example, the type filter can isolate recordings or notes containing URLs. Keep can also find English text inside photos, allowing words on a photographed receipt to serve as search terms.
Shared notes
Adding a collaborator gives another person access to edit the note, including its text, lists, images, drawings and recordings. Changes appear in real time, so several people can maintain the same list rather than exchange separate copies. Collaborators can be selected by name, email address or Google Group.
Personal organization remains separate from the shared content. Your labels, colors and pins do not change how other collaborators arrange the note. Deleting a shared note that you own, however, removes it for everyone.
Reminders
A note can carry a timed reminder with a date, time and repeat schedule. These reminders are accessible in Google Keep, Tasks and Calendar. Tasks or Calendar provides the notification, with Tasks taking priority when both apps are installed.
The reminder and note have separate lifecycles: deleting the reminder in Tasks or Calendar leaves the Keep note intact, and archiving the note does not affect its task. You can adjust the reminder’s date and time from Keep without moving the note’s contents into a task description.
Google Keep with Docs and Slides
On a computer, Google Docs and Slides can display Keep notes in a side panel. You can drag a note from that panel into a document, or save selected text and images from a document or presentation back into Keep. Google Keep can also copy a note to a Google Docs document when its contents need further development beyond the note itself.
