Overview

Notezilla is a sticky notes program for Windows that places colored notes directly on the desktop. It adds reminder alarms to them and can link a note to a specific document, website, folder or program. Conceptworld also offers free Notezilla apps for Android and iPhone/iPad. The iPad app can run on a Mac. These companion apps work with the notes kept in the Windows version. The Windows program is paid software with a trial period, and a portable edition is available under the same license.

Notes on the Windows desktop

Each note in Notezilla looks like a paper sticky note and stays on the desktop where it was placed. The “Stay on top” option keeps a note above other application windows while other programs are in use.

The appearance of every note can be changed separately. Users can change a note’s color, apply skins such as ruled paper or antique paper, make a note transparent and add a shadow. Users can also stretch a note to the full width of the monitor. This lets Notezilla serve as a plain text editor in place of Notepad.

Text, checklists and pictures

Notes accept formatted text with a choice of font style, color and alignment. Notezilla includes spell checking, a word count, a command that inserts the current date and time, and a paste option that strips formatting from copied text. A note can be turned into a checklist with a checkbox beside each item, which suits to-do lists. Images copied from a website can be pasted straight into a note.

Reminder alarms

Any sticky note can carry a reminder. When the alarm time arrives, Notezilla shows the note in a reminder popup. From there the user can snooze it for a number of minutes, hours or days. They can also set a new time, dismiss the alarm or delete the note. Reminders can also be delivered as emails.

Schedules are not limited to one date. Notezilla supports recurring reminders that repeat daily, weekly or on chosen weekdays. It also supports patterns such as the first Sunday or last Friday of each month. Separately, the program can start another application automatically at a set time.

Attaching notes to documents and websites

Users can attach a Notezilla note to a document, web page, program, email, folder or any other window. Once attached, the note stays hidden until that item is opened again. It then appears on its own. This keeps information such as account details for a banking site next to the item it concerns. Notes attached this way are stored on the local computer.

A hotkey attaches a note to the document currently open. Wildcards (*) widen the match, so one note can appear across several pages of the same website or on multiple files inside one folder. Attaching notes to Windows Explorer folders may require adjusting an Explorer setting first.

Memoboards, tags and the Notes Browser

To keep the desktop uncluttered, users can move notes into folders called memoboards, shown in the Notezilla Notes Browser. There they are arranged like a storyboard, while only the notes currently needed stay on the desktop. The browser lets the user act on several notes at once.

Tags add a second way of grouping. Users can tag a note by topic, context or project. This lets them find related notes together even when they sit in different memoboards.

Locked notes

Notes containing sensitive information can be locked and encrypted with a master password.

Sync with other PCs and phones

Notezilla can synchronize notes through the cloud between several computers. Sync is optional and selective: the user can sync all notes or choose individual notes and keep the rest offline. The cloud copy also lets users restore notes onto a new PC after a system failure.

The Android and iPhone/iPad apps connect to the same sync account. A note created on the phone appears as a sticky note on the Windows desktop. Users can also set reminders from the phone. A web app provides access from a browser.

Sending notes to other people

Notezilla can send a note to another computer on the same local network. Over the internet, notes travel through the Notezilla.Net cloud service. A recipient who does not use Notezilla receives the note as an email. Users can send a note to a group of contacts in one action. The mobile apps can also send notes to contacts.

License types

The Windows version is sold in two ways, and the choice mainly affects the cloud features.

Subscription One-time license
Desktop program Permanent license; continues on one computer if the subscription ends Permanent license for up to two computers and one phone or tablet
Sync, mobile access and sending notes Available while the subscription is active Sync and access from other devices included for the first year
New major versions Included Minor updates free; major upgrades discounted

A sync account belongs to one user. Organizations that need Notezilla for several people buy multiple licenses.
