PlayStation App is a free Android and iOS companion for your PlayStation account, friends and PS4 or PS5 console. It brings conversations, game purchases and selected console controls to your phone. You can arrange a gaming session, send a game to your console for download and collect screenshots afterward through the same app.
Friends
The friends view shows who is online and which games they are playing. You can also open player profiles and compare your trophies with a friend’s.
Parties
PlayStation App groups conversations into parties. Select the players you want to include, then exchange text, stickers, images or voice recordings in the conversation. Opening voice chat connects you with the party members for a live discussion. Each party has its own notification control, so an active conversation can be muted without silencing every other group. A party owner can also remove a participant.
Share screen
You can watch a friend’s PS5 gameplay on your phone through Share Screen. Request a screen share from their profile, or join through an invitation while participating in the voice chat room. When someone in that room starts sharing from a PS5, their game can appear in PlayStation App alongside the conversation.
Autoplay and mobile-data video-quality settings control how this viewing behaves on your device. These let you limit video resolution when using a mobile connection.
PS Store purchases and remote downloads
The integrated PS Store lets you search for games, buy releases and place preorders from your phone. Games saved to your wishlist remain available for later consideration, with notifications when their prices change. The app also shows PlayStation news and release notifications.
Purchases appear in the app’s game library, where you can select a title and send its download to a paired console. Games and add-ons can be downloaded to a PS5 or your primary PS4. The console must be in rest mode with its internet connection enabled for remote downloads, and the app notifies you when a download finishes.
Managing your PS5 from PlayStation App
Pairing a PS5 with PlayStation App also gives you access to its storage. You can check free space and delete selected games from console storage or connected USB extended storage. The app does not move or copy games between storage devices. If an installed M.2 SSD is the console’s default installation destination, remote downloads can use it too.
For games already installed on the paired PS5, Play on Console starts the selected title. An invitation can similarly offer Join on Console to launch the game associated with it. These actions use the console’s network-enabled rest mode. If PS Remote Play is installed on the same phone, PlayStation App can hand a game over to that separate app to begin a Remote Play session.
Game captures
PlayStation App provides a route from PS5 screenshots and short gameplay recordings to your phone. With captures enabled, eligible media uploads from the linked console and appears in the app’s capture library. You can view it there, send it to a party, share it through another supported app or download a copy to the phone’s storage.
Captures remain available in the app for 14 days. Supported videos are shorter than three minutes and no higher than 1080p; automatic trophy moments and Activity Challenge captures are excluded. The capture feature does not require PlayStation Plus. Saving a copy on the phone lets you retain the media beyond its temporary availability in PlayStation App.
