Stardock DeskScapes is a Windows desktop wallpaper application for displaying photos, animated backgrounds and video behind your desktop icons. It combines a wallpaper collection with tools for changing an image’s appearance, generating new artwork locally and cycling backgrounds across your monitors.
DeskScapes is paid software with a perpetual standalone license covering five active devices and a time-limited free trial. It is also available through the separate Object Desktop subscription suite.
Browsing still and animated wallpapers
You can use your own image or video as the desktop background, or browse community designs from within the application. Installed wallpapers can be sorted by static or animated content, and a separate view shows popular backgrounds.
DeskScapes keeps these choices in a wallpaper browser so you can return to previously used backgrounds when changing the desktop. Adjustable thumbnail sizes change how much detail you see while browsing a collection.
Image effects
An existing picture can become the starting point for a different wallpaper without replacing its subject. DeskScapes provides color filters, gradients, textures and blur effects, and lets you combine effects on the same background.
Local image generation and AI Restyle
Stardock DeskScapes can also generate wallpaper images using the computer’s CPU or GPU. Image processing takes place locally, without cloud processing, generation tokens or a subscription for those functions.
AI Restyle starts with an existing image and applies one of the available artistic styles to it. Local upscaling can increase an image’s resolution up to 4K for use as a desktop background.
Wallpaper playlists
A playlist collects backgrounds to display in rotation. You choose how often the image changes and can add or remove items as the collection evolves.
Playlists can be applied to a particular monitor or to the entire display setup.
