TouchCopy transfers personal data from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer through a local cable or Wi-Fi connection. It can copy music into a desktop library, export photos and videos, save message conversations, and retrieve contacts, call logs, notes, calendars, voice recordings, and files. TouchCopy reads categories separately, so exporting a message archive does not also move the device’s entire contents. It does not create a new phone that mirrors every app and setting.
Trust the computer
The first connection depends on Apple’s trust handshake. The device must remain unlocked while the user approves Trust This Computer and enters the device passcode. It cannot read protected data before that approval. If the prompt never appears, the support path starts by opening the device in Apple Devices, iTunes, or Finder, closing that program, and reconnecting.
Wi-Fi discovery also depends on a previous cable relationship and the device’s synchronization settings. A cable is the clearer first test when TouchCopy shows no device. Changing cables, USB ports, and hubs is more useful than repeatedly restarting an export that never established the underlying Apple connection.
Messages need backups
Messages, contacts, call logs, calendars, and notes live in databases that TouchCopy reads through a local device backup. If the computer has no suitable backup, it can create one. That step can take time and consume substantial disk space, especially when the phone carries many photos or app records. The backup location can move to another drive, which helps a computer with a small system disk.
An encrypted Apple backup introduces a password prompt. The backup password opens protected databases and stays on the local computer. The device passcode and Apple Account password do not substitute for a forgotten backup password. Music, photos, and ordinary files follow different paths and can remain accessible even when the message database cannot open.
Music copy rules
TouchCopy can copy device music into a chosen folder or add tracks to a desktop music library. Its reports can identify tracks that appear on the device but not in that library. Copy and Replace rules decide what happens when a destination already contains a file with the same name, so the user should inspect the folder pattern before a large transfer.
A cloud badge changes what TouchCopy can do. An Apple Music or iCloud track that exists only as an online reference has no local audio file to copy. The track must download onto the device first. Subscription-protected music can remain unavailable as a transferable file even though it plays inside Apple’s music app.
Readable message exports
TouchCopy can save conversations as HTML, PDF, or plain text and can print them with attached media. A long conversation may need a fresh device backup before the newest messages appear. Exporting only the visible first portion can create an incomplete record if the program is still reading the database or the trial limit applies.
The same separation applies to photos and device files. TouchCopy copies selected items to a computer folder; deleting the exported copy does not remove the phone original. Conversely, a successful export does not prove that every attachment copied. Checking the item count and opening a few files catches an interrupted transfer before the phone gets erased or replaced.
Local storage choices
TouchCopy can delete its temporary backup after disconnecting the device. That saves disk space, but the next message or contact session must build another backup and takes longer. Keeping the backup makes repeated work faster at the cost of local storage and another copy of private phone data. The correct setting depends on whether the computer is personal, encrypted, and likely to reconnect to the same device.
