Ashampoo Backup FREE is a free backup and recovery application for Windows. It stores copies of individual files, partitions or whole disks, with a rescue system for recovering a backup when Windows will not start.
Backup destinations include local disks, external hard disks and network drives. The available source scope also includes Outlook and browser profiles and Windows contacts, allowing backup coverage to extend beyond ordinary documents to these application and address-book data.
Backup plans
Ashampoo Backup FREE organizes backup jobs as separate named plans. The plan view keeps each job’s last-backup status and next execution time together, so the user can distinguish a completed backup from one that has not run.
Each plan has its own Start Backup button for a manual run, alongside its scheduled execution. Separate plans can represent different selections, such as music, pictures and system data, while retaining an individual execution record for each job.
Rescue media
The rescue-medium tool creates a USB stick or a CD/DVD for restoring a backup when the computer no longer starts. These media provide access to recovery outside the Windows system that cannot boot.
The USB option lets the user select a connected stick from a device list; Show all drives expands that selection. The CD/DVD option instead selects the optical writer used to produce the rescue disc.
