Ashampoo Burning Studio turns files and prepared media projects into optical discs, disc-image files, and restorable backup sets. It can write a folder to a data disc, copy an existing disc, extract tracks from an audio CD, build an audio compilation, or save and burn an ISO image. These jobs are different from dragging files onto a drive in File Explorer because Ashampoo Burning Studio controls the disc format, finalization, spanning, verification, and any recovery data written beside the files.
Choose the project
The start screen separates data, audio, video, disc-copy, image, cover, and backup work. A data project keeps ordinary files and folders. An audio-CD project converts tracks into the layout expected by a CD player. A disc-image project treats an ISO or CUE/BIN set as a complete disc layout rather than a folder of files. Selecting the correct project first determines what the finished medium can do.
Video burning has another boundary. A prepared video-disc folder already contains the required structure and can be written directly. Raw video clips need an authoring project before a household player can use menus and chapters. Burning the clips as ordinary data preserves the files but does not create the same playback structure.
Capacity changes the plan
Ashampoo Burning Studio calculates whether the selected material fits the chosen medium. Disc spanning divides a large data or backup job across several discs when one volume is too small. The set then depends on every required volume. Losing one disc can leave part of the backup unavailable, so spanning trades convenience during writing for more pieces to store and label.
Scratch protection reserves part of the disc for recovery information. That reservation reduces the space available to the user’s files. The matching restore command reconstructs readable data when damaged sectors stay within the recovery capacity; it cannot repair physical damage without enough surviving information. An encrypted disc also needs its password, and losing that password removes the normal recovery path even when the medium itself remains readable.
Audio needs metadata
Audio ripping reads tracks from a music CD and saves them as files. Ashampoo Burning Studio can use CD-Text or an online lookup to fill artist, album, track name, and cover details. The user should review those fields before a large rip because a mistaken match becomes part of the filenames and tags. A disc without matching database information needs manual naming.
Audio-disc creation can normalize volume, add equalizer changes, and arrange track order. These changes belong to the newly burned compilation; they do not rewrite the source songs unless the user also exports processed files. Playlists created during ripping preserve an order but do not contain the audio themselves, so moving the songs without the playlist paths can break that list.
Images and copies
A disc image stores a complete layout in one file. Ashampoo Burning Studio can create an image from a disc, inspect supported image formats, and burn the image onto another medium. Copying a disc may use temporary storage when only one drive is available: the program reads the source first, asks for a blank disc, then writes the saved image.
Final verification rereads written data and compares it with the project. It detects a failed write but cannot guarantee that aging media will stay readable years later. Rewritable discs can be erased and reused, while write-once media cannot reclaim space simply because files were removed from an update project. Those filesystem entries may disappear from the current view, but the already written sectors remain occupied.
