CamScanner turns a phone camera into a document-capture workflow. It photographs paper, finds the page edges, removes the surrounding desk, corrects the perspective, and saves one or many pages as a PDF or a set of images. The app acts on page photographs rather than changing the paper itself. Unlike the ordinary camera app, CamScanner keeps related pages in one document and adds tools for text recognition, page order, signatures, passwords, and sharing.
Capture the page
CamScanner has capture modes for ordinary documents, books, ID cards, forms, slides, and whiteboards. Automatic cropping works best when the page edge contrasts with the background. A pale sheet on a pale desk or a curled book page can confuse the boundary, so the user may need to drag the corner handles before accepting the scan.
After capture, CamScanner can flatten the page and apply a filter that changes contrast or color. A filter can make faint printing easier to read, but it cannot restore letters hidden by glare, motion blur, or a finger over the lens. Checking the enlarged page before adding the next sheet prevents a complete multipage PDF from preserving an unreadable capture.
Arrange the document
Each accepted capture becomes a page inside a CamScanner document. Pages can move into a different order, rotate, split into separate files, merge with another document, or leave the set entirely. Batch capture reduces repeated setup when several sheets belong together. It still depends on the user feeding the pages in the intended sequence and checking that no sheet appears twice.
Annotations and an electronic signature sit on top of the scanned page. Password protection restricts opening or sharing a PDF, while a watermark adds visible text to the output. These actions create a changed export; they do not alter the original paper or a clean source image stored elsewhere.
Recognize the text
CamScanner uses optical character recognition, or OCR, to turn letters in an image into searchable or editable text. Recognition supports 41 languages. The result is separate from the page image, so a clean-looking scan can still contain an OCR mistake in a name, total, or serial number. Anyone copying a critical value should compare it with the visible page.
Document conversion can send extracted content into Word, Excel, or PowerPoint output. A photographed table does not always become a perfect spreadsheet because borders, merged cells, handwriting, and unusual layouts affect recognition. CamScanner also places some OCR and conversion capacity behind account limits, so a basic account may not process a large archive in one session.
Sync changes the boundary
A local scan stays on the device until the user chooses a service action that uploads it. Cloud sync, cloud OCR, online conversion, merging, and other document-processing tasks send selected files to CamScanner. This matters for passports, contracts, medical records, and other private material. The convenience of opening a scan on another signed-in device comes with a different storage boundary than an image kept only on the phone.
CamScanner can share by file, link, email, messaging app, wireless printing, or fax. A shared link may remain accessible beyond the conversation where it was sent, and password-protected recipients need the password through a separate trusted channel. Fax delivery also needs the correct country and destination number; it is not the same action as exporting a PDF to local storage.
Check the export
Account tier and region affect watermark removal, storage, OCR quotas, and some editing controls. A basic export may carry a Scanned by CamScanner mark. Before submitting a formal document, the user should open the actual exported file, confirm its page order, inspect the crop, and verify whether a watermark or password remains. The preview inside CamScanner is not the file that a recipient finally receives.
