CyberLink AudioDirector is a Windows application for recording, editing, repairing and mixing audio. It brings voice recordings, music and sound effects into a multitrack timeline, with tools for cleaning dialogue and building soundtracks for video. The current AudioDirector 365 edition also includes a podcast workspace, transcript-based editing and music generation.
Record Room and timeline editing
The Record Room lets you choose the input device and set recording volume, channel configuration, sample rate and bit depth before capturing sound. It supports multichannel recording devices and punch-and-roll recording, as well as straightforward voice or instrument recording. Recorded material can then be trimmed, layered and arranged alongside other tracks.
AudioDirector’s timeline uses non-destructive editing, so arranging clips does not require overwriting the source recording. Background music can be adjusted automatically to a video’s duration. Changing a clip’s speed alters its duration and pitch, while the pitch shifter changes its musical key without changing playback speed.
Speech editing
Spoken recordings can be converted into editable transcripts. Cutting or rearranging the text changes the corresponding audio, so an interview or voiceover can be assembled by following its words instead of searching the waveform. The transcript can also be exported as a document, and the text workflow supports caption creation.
Podcast Studio brings this approach into a dedicated workspace. Transcribe All converts the podcast tracks into editable text, while Enhance All applies noise reduction, speech enhancement and automatic leveling across the tracks. Speech Auto Level addresses changes in speaker volume.
Audio repair
Noise reduction targets background sound, wind removal handles outdoor wind noise, and DeReverb reduces echo and excessive room reverberation. The AI Restoration Assistant detects unwanted noises and recommends repair tools, while Visual Repair lets you isolate acoustic imperfections for treatment.
Older or damaged recordings have their own controls. Click removal reduces short clicks and pops, hum removal targets electrical noise, and hiss removal addresses steady hiss such as that found in tape recordings. Clipping removal works on distortion caused by excessive recording levels.
Voice cleanup extends to sounds within the performance. De-essing reduces prominent sibilant sounds, plosive removal treats excessive consonant bursts, and Breath Control adjusts breathing noises through gain and sensitivity settings. A noise gate suppresses low-level background sound between signals or during silence.
Dialogue matching
Joining dialogue from different takes can expose changes in tone, loudness and background sound. AudioDirector provides separate controls for each. The equalizer boosts or reduces frequency ranges, and EQ Match uses one audio source to adjust the tonal balance of another. Dynamic Range Control balances softer and louder elements in dialogue, music or effects.
Ambience Match analyzes background noise and saves it as a reusable preset, allowing another recording to carry a similar background tone. For replacement dialogue recorded separately from a picture, Auto Dialogue Alignment aligns the dub with the video. Dialogue Contour changes the pitch or intonation of speech when the spoken delivery itself needs adjustment.
Surround, spatial audio and effects
AudioDirector can build sound beyond a conventional stereo mix. The surround panner places sounds around the listener, while the spatial audio panner creates ambisonic soundtracks for 360-degree video. Within stereo material, the stereo expander changes the perceived width of the sound.
Effects also change how a source occupies a scene. Reverb adds simulated room reflections, while echo and delay add repetitions. Phone and radio effects give dialogue the tonal character of those devices. Chosen effects and presets can be applied to multiple audio files through batch processing.
Music creation
AI Lyrics to Song generates music with vocals from supplied lyrics or a description of a mood, theme or story. AudioDirector 365 also provides a library of royalty-free background music and sound effects for adding material to a project.
Existing songs can be treated differently: the vocal remover reduces the prominence of singing to make backing tracks, while vocal boost brings voices forward. Pitch shifting can change the song’s key, and reverb, echo or delay can be added to recorded vocals.
AudioDirector editions
AudioDirector 365 is available through a paid subscription. The free AudioDirector Essential edition provides core tools with output-format restrictions and duration limits. The full subscription removes those limits and includes access to the subscription’s music and effects library.
