Overview

Daily.dev is a developer news and community app from Daily Dev Ltd., available through the web, Chrome and Edge extensions, Android, and iOS. Its free service combines article discovery, reading lists, and discussions; an optional Plus subscription adds feed controls and AI tools. The browser extensions replace a new tab with your feed.

Topics that shape the feed

You choose technology tags and sources, and Daily.dev adjusts recommendations using those choices alongside reading and community activity. Feed settings distinguish several controls:

  • Topic tags select technologies and subjects.
  • Content categories distinguish tutorials, releases, opinions, and other post types.
  • Language settings limit posts by their content language.

Tags select subjects; category filters distinguish the kind of post. Blocking a tag or source removes that material from your feed. An account keeps your preferences and synchronizes them between devices.

Finding and keeping a post

Daily.dev searches posts, source names, tags, developers, and Squads from one search box. Results combine relevant posts with separate matches for those other categories. You can open a post’s discussion to read comments, upvote the post, or continue to the original content.

The bookmark action adds a post to your reading list, and account sync makes it available on other devices. Public Mode creates an RSS feed of your bookmarks for sharing with other readers or services. Plus expands folder organization: you create collections, add descriptions, and move posts between them. Quick Saves holds the default reading list for the free service.

Squads and shared discussions

A Squad gives the community’s posts and discussions their own space within Daily.dev. You create one with a name, handle, image, and description, then invite members and set posting permissions. Members can publish links, questions, write-ups, and polls; moderators manage posts, comments, and member interactions.

Public Squads appear in a directory and allow developers to join. Private Squads require invitations and show their content only to members. Administrators can also edit the rules that the composer displays to members.

Separate feeds for different interests

Daily.dev Plus adds separate Custom Feeds for interests that need different settings. You choose each feed’s tags, sources, content types, languages, and keyword exclusions. Sorting and engagement controls can prioritize recent articles, upvotes, or discussion activity, and hide posts you have already viewed. Each feed keeps its own criteria, and you can make one of these feeds your default.

Clickbait Shield works at the headline level: AI rewrites a title to reflect the article’s content. Plus also removes advertisements from the feed and other app surfaces.

Briefings from the reading stream

Presidential Briefing turns the reading stream into a separate digest inside Daily.dev. The system reviews posts, videos, Squad threads, and release material, then writes a briefing around your profile and interests. The output divides updates into must-know highlights, broader stories, and critical analysis. Daily.dev also places each briefing in your bookmarks.

The free service offers an introductory briefing. Plus subscribers can continue receiving them and choose a frequency with delivery in the app, by email, or through Slack.

A record of reading activity

Daily.dev tracks reading days to calculate your streak, longest run, and total days. The streak widget shows the week’s activity; weekend settings let you select days you can skip without breaking the run. For most articles, opening a feed card alone does not count: you must continue to the original content. Video views and Squad posts follow different counting rules.

Career Mode

Career Mode uses your profile, skills, interests, and preferences to match job opportunities. You enable it, set availability, and privately review the roles it finds. Daily.dev introduces you by email only after both you and the recruiter accept the specific opportunity. The matching service is free for developers.

Access through an API

The Daily.dev public API lets other applications retrieve feeds, search results, post discussions, and bookmark records as JSON. Personal access tokens or OAuth authorization identify the account behind a request. The API can also change bookmarks, feed filters, and profile information. The MCP server exposes those operations to compatible agents as remote tools. The API remains in beta; Plus raises request limits and unlocks Plus-only endpoints.
