Avant Browser is a tabbed web browser whose Ultimate edition carries three rendering engines and can choose a different engine for a particular site. The engine is the part that interprets HTML, CSS, and scripts. Switching it can help an old business page that expects Internet Explorer behavior or a page that works better with a Firefox- or Chrome-derived engine. This is different from changing a search engine, which only changes where a query is sent.
Three rendering engines
The Ultimate package includes Trident, Gecko, and a WebKit-family engine corresponding to Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome technology in Avant’s documentation. Avant Browser can switch manually or remember a site-specific choice. The Lite package contains only the Internet Explorer engine, so it cannot perform the same comparison.
A page opened through another engine still shares Avant Browser’s surrounding interface, bookmarks, and download controls. The engine can change layout, script compatibility, and developer-facing behavior. It cannot make an obsolete engine support every current web standard. Login state may also differ when engine-specific storage or cookies do not carry across as expected, so switching during a form or checkout can require another sign-in.
Tabs beside tabs
Split View places multiple sites in the same workspace. A tab can also detach into a separate always-on-top window, which keeps a video or reference page visible above another program. Multi-process isolation aims to keep one failed tab from taking down every open page.
These arrangements use the same finite memory and graphics resources. Two active sites in Split View can keep scripts, video, and advertisements running at the same time. A detached window remains part of the browser session, so closing the main view without checking the detached window can leave media or a login session active.
Downloads and media
Avant Browser has a multithreaded download manager with pause, resume, and file organization. Video Sniffer watches a loaded page for media resources and presents detected items for download. It can also hand downloads to several external managers that integrate with the browser.
Detection does not mean every video is a normal reusable file. A site may stream encrypted segments, generate temporary addresses, or restrict copying through its terms. In those cases the sniffer may show no suitable item or produce a link that expires. Pausing also depends on the server accepting ranged requests; a server that does not support them may force a restart.
Profiles and age
The portable package stores its profile in the Avant Browser folder rather than the usual installed location. That makes a USB copy easier to move, but anyone who obtains the folder may also obtain its browsing data. AutoFill and startup-login records deserve particular care because they can contain account details.
The official download page still labels a build from 2020 as stable. That gap matters for a web browser because certificate rules, site scripts, and engine security fixes change continually. The bundled engines may fail on newer sites even when Avant Browser itself starts normally. Keeping it for a specific legacy page is a different risk decision from using it as the default browser for email, banking, and untrusted downloads.
