Overview

Driver Reviver is a Windows utility for finding outdated hardware drivers and replacing them with updates from device manufacturers. It checks the drivers used by the computer’s components and attached devices, then presents the available updates for review. Alongside updating, Driver Reviver keeps copies of original drivers and lets users exclude replacements they do not want applied.

Driver updates

A scan produces a list of outdated drivers that can be handled individually or together. Individual updating lets the user choose a replacement from the results and complete that update before moving to the next. The registered edition’s Update All command processes the outstanding updates as a group.

During an update, Driver Reviver downloads the replacement, backs up the existing driver and installs the new one. A summary appears after the updates finish. The same process covers drivers for internal hardware and peripherals such as printers, scanners and webcams, bringing their update checks into one application.

The free version can scan the computer to identify available driver updates. Registration adds Update All, access to early driver releases and dedicated email support.

Exclusions and early driver releases

A driver can remain excluded across later scans. The scan results provide an exclusion command that moves the chosen update into Driver Reviver’s Driver Exclusion List. Removing the entry from the exclusion list makes it eligible to appear again.

Driver Reviver normally offers recommended driver updates. Its Deliver all driver updates setting also includes early, beta releases from hardware manufacturers. Those packages may still be undergoing testing and certification.

Driver recovery

The Backup area supports creating a driver backup separately from an update. Its wizard lets the user choose the backup type and preserve the drivers before making changes. Automatic backups during updating provide another route to retaining the originals.

To return to a saved set of drivers, Driver Reviver lists the available backups in its restoration wizard. The user chooses a backup and loads it to restore the earlier drivers.

A separate option creates a Windows system restore point before drivers are updated. It is enabled by default and can be changed in Options. Driver backups preserve earlier drivers for the restoration wizard; a system restore point provides Windows with an earlier system state to return to after unwanted changes.

Scan scheduling

Driver Reviver can run checks according to a saved schedule. The Schedule settings let the user select a schedule type and its preferences, then apply them to future runs. The existing schedule can be edited later, allowing recurring checks without manually starting every scan.
