Overview

EaseUS MobiUnlock is a Windows and macOS program for getting back into an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch when a lock stands in the way. That lock may be a forgotten screen passcode, an Apple ID whose password is unknown, a Screen Time restriction or an encrypted iTunes backup. It is commercial software; the free trial walks through each unlock procedure but asks for a license code before it carries one out. EaseUS sells a separate product, MobiUnlock for Android, for Android lock screens.

Every function works over a cable connection between the iOS device and the computer, and the program relies on Apple’s own device services. The latest iTunes needs to be present. When the Apple driver or the Apple Mobile Device Service is missing or stopped, MobiUnlock offers to install or start it.

Removing a forgotten screen passcode

The main tool in EaseUS MobiUnlock handles 4-digit and 6-digit codes, custom numeric and alphanumeric passcodes, and devices locked behind Touch ID or Face ID. It is meant for a forgotten code or a device showing “iPhone Unavailable” or “iPhone Disabled” after too many wrong attempts. It is also meant for a cracked screen that can no longer take input or a second-hand device with an unknown code.

The procedure reinstalls iOS rather than cracking the code:

  1. The user connects the device and puts it into Recovery Mode. The method differs by model, and the user follows the guide EaseUS provides for it.
  2. MobiUnlock identifies the model and offers matching iOS firmware. It can download the package itself, use a firmware file already on the computer, or provide the link for a manual browser download. It then verifies the file.
  3. After a typed confirmation, the program installs the firmware and the device restarts to its setup screen.

Restoring the device erases everything on it along with the passcode.

Apple ID removal

This function targets a device that opens normally but is signed in to an Apple ID whose password is unknown. A used iPhone still tied to its previous owner is one example. Two conditions apply: the user must know the correct screen passcode, and the account must have two-factor authentication turned on. Without two-factor authentication, MobiUnlock cannot remove the Apple ID.

The process again downloads or loads firmware and wipes the device. Once it finishes, the user activates the device through its normal setup and can sign in with a different Apple ID. EaseUS MobiUnlock also removes the account when the App Store reports that the Apple ID has been disabled.

Screen Time passcode

A forgotten Screen Time passcode, including one set for parental controls, can be cleared without erasing the device. Find My iPhone has to be switched off first; if it is still on, MobiUnlock displays instructions and waits. The program then removes the passcode. The device restarts for a short setup, with apps, photos and settings left in place.

Encrypted iTunes backups

When the password for encrypted local backups is lost, iTunes cannot make new backups without it. MobiUnlock turns off the backup encryption setting on the device itself, again after Find My iPhone is disabled. If the user remembers the old password, they can enter it instead of removing the encryption.

MobiUnlock does not recover the old password. Backups made with it stay locked, and the program only clears the way for new backups, either unencrypted or with a fresh password.

Viewing and exporting saved passwords

The iOS Password Manager in EaseUS MobiUnlock scans a connected device for stored credentials: Wi-Fi networks, website and app logins, mail accounts, Apple ID entries and saved credit card details. These items are only readable from an encrypted backup, so the program creates one during the scan. If backup encryption is off, it sets a temporary backup password of “123”. The user enters the backup password on the computer and the screen passcode on the device.

Results appear in a list where the user can reveal or hide each password. The user can export selected items as CSV or in formats that 1Password, Dashlane and LastPass can import. The manager does not reveal the password of the Apple ID signed in to the device.

Jailbreak-based tools

Two further functions only work on a jailbroken device. Activation Lock bypass, available in the Mac edition, gets past the activation screen of a device linked to an unknown Apple ID. It is limited to older hardware, from iPhone 5s to iPhone X and comparable iPad and iPod touch models on specific iOS releases. After the bypass, calls and cellular messages do not work, and the user cannot use a new Apple ID with iCloud. A restart, reset or update brings the activation screen back, and the user then has to repeat the bypass. EaseUS restricts the tool to personal use on devices the user owns.

SIM lock removal addresses “SIM not supported” and “SIM Not Valid” errors so the iPhone accepts cards from other carriers.

Trial and licensing

The trial version of EaseUS MobiUnlock opens every module, detects the connected device and runs through the steps. However, the unlock itself requires a purchased license code. Activation happens online from the program window, as there is no offline activation.
