GetFLV is a paid Windows program for downloading web video, recording playback, and processing local video files. GetFLV offers a trial alongside its paid Pro and Golden plans. Its tools cover browser-based detection, video conversion, audio extraction, and FLV repair, with optional plugins for batch downloads and capture.
Detect video during playback
The built-in browser opens a web page and plays its video. GetFLV detects the media address and adds it to the URL list. Users select the relevant entry and create a download task.
The downloader handles HTTP, HDS, HLS, RTSP, and MMS streams. Browser controls offer IE and Chrome engines for page playback. The iPad and Android browser modes detect streams when a website supports the corresponding mobile browser. The former detects HLS addresses, while the latter detects HTTP video links.
Download tasks
GetFLV can divide a file into sections and download several sections concurrently. The FLV Downloader window shows task progress, and the built-in player previews video while the download continues. Users can resume stopped tasks.
A download continues after the user stops watching or leaves the source page. The downloader’s context menu also sends selected FLV files directly to conversion, audio extraction, or repair tools.
Batch Detector
The optional Batch Downloader Plugin can inspect an entire page or only the video links the user selects. Its results window lets users choose which detected videos to download. GetFLV creates a batch task for those choices, and opening that parent task reveals its individual downloads.
A separate New Task control accepts a YouTube playlist or channel address. The browser can also detect these addresses and offer a batch download. The batch window tracks progress across the resulting tasks.
Record a playback region
The Video Capture Plugin records a browser’s video and audio into a local file. A new capture task opens its own browser for the source page. Users move or resize a transparent selection window to define the recording area.
Capture settings specify a task name, duration, output format, and video quality. Recording begins through a direct control or a countdown while the source plays. GetFLV saves the result automatically when the duration ends; Stop&Save ends a recording earlier and keeps its output.
The task list shows a thumbnail, progress, and elapsed time, while Finished Tasks contains completed recordings. Running several captures simultaneously can cause audio and video to lose synchronization.
Convert local video
The converter accepts multiple files through Add File(s). It can turn formats such as AVI, WMV, MOV, ASF, MP4, and 3GP into FLV. Conversion in the other direction produces formats including MP4, WMV, 3GP, AVI, and MOV.
GetFLV provides output profiles plus file-type, subtype, video, and audio settings. Users select an output profile and keep the results in each source folder or specify another directory. The Convert action processes the file list with those output choices.
Edits before export
The converter’s editor separates timing, cropping, and overlays into individual tabs. Split Video sets the retained section through start and end times, with previous-frame and next-frame controls for positioning. Crop Video selects a rectangular portion of the picture.
Image Watermark places a picture over the video, while Text Watermark adds text. The preview shows the overlay within the frame before conversion produces the edited output.
Extract an audio file
Audio Ripper takes FLV files and writes their sound into separate audio files. GetFLV offers MP3, WMA, and AAC outputs. Users can add several source files, select an audio profile, and choose the original folder or another output directory.
Detailed controls select the audio codec, bitrate, sample rate, and channel configuration when the chosen profile offers those options. The Convert action extracts the audio with those settings. Mono and stereo availability depends on the output format.
Correct FLV metadata
FLV Fixer addresses duration information and seeking within FLV files. Users add one or several files and start Repair. The tool replaces existing duration metadata with corrected values and repairs files that do not allow seeking through playback.
Core plans and plugins
Pro and Golden include the same core stream detection, downloading, conversion, and editing tools. Pro includes a limited period of upgrades; Golden includes lifetime upgrades. Video Capture and Batch Downloader remain separate optional purchases within the plan selection.
