Icecream Video Editor is a freemium Windows application from Icecream Apps for assembling videos, pictures and audio into a finished movie. It combines timeline editing with transitions, overlays, soundtrack controls and file export. The free edition includes the main editing tools; PRO removes scene and watermark limits and permits commercial use.
Media library to timeline
Users import files into the media library with Add files or drag them from folders. Icecream accepts video formats including MP4, AVI, WebM and MOV, images such as JPG, PNG and GIF, and MP3 or WAV audio. Dragging media onto the timeline places it in the project, where users arrange scenes in the desired order.
The preview plays the sequence during editing. Icecream Video Editor automatically saves work in Projects, so users can close an unfinished project and continue it later.
Cutting scenes and changing their speed
Trim sets the beginning and end of a scene to retain. To remove an internal section, users move to its boundaries, split the clip into separate scenes and delete the unwanted segment.
The General panel also controls playback speed. Users move a slider or press the arrow keys to choose rates from quarter speed to ten times normal playback. Splitting a clip lets different parts use different speeds.
Framing each scene
The aspect-ratio selector changes the project’s frame shape, including a portrait option. Crop removes unwanted edges from individual scenes, while rotation and horizontal or vertical flipping change their orientation. Blank areas can use a blurred background, and automatic enlarging fills the frame.
Scene appearance
Scene settings provide brightness, contrast and saturation controls. Users select a timeline clip, adjust these values in General and preview the changed picture. Filters offer additional changes to the footage’s appearance.
Transitions between scenes
The plus sign between timeline scenes opens the transition choices. For example, Dissolve fades the first clip out as the next appears. The player previews the join before export.
Icecream also supplies motion effects for photos. The Random option chooses transitions and motion effects without requiring an individual selection for each scene.
Picture-in-picture overlays
PiP places a secondary video or picture over the main footage. Users select the main scene, open PiP and choose the additional media from the library. Dragging the overlay changes its position, while its edges control size. Shape choices alter its outline, and trimming adjusts the secondary video’s length.
Users can also attach stickers, such as emojis or decorative graphics, to a scene.
Text over the picture
The Text tool creates overlays for titles or captions. Style presets provide a starting appearance, and users adjust color, size, position and motion speed. Playback previews the text against the underlying footage.
Timed captions
For timed captions, the Subtitles panel accepts an existing SRT file or individual manual entries. Add subtitle takes the text and its beginning and end times. Style controls change the font, size, color and transparency before Icecream includes the subtitles in the exported video.
Background music
Users import a sound file, add it to the project and select its track to adjust volume and fades. Looping repeats background audio. The original clip sound has a separate Keep original audio option; clearing it mutes that soundtrack while retaining the added music.
Recording narration
The Voiceover button opens microphone controls for recording narration inside Icecream Video Editor. Users enable Voiceover ON and record against their video or photo sequence. Playback checks the recording alongside the visuals, while trimming and volume controls adjust the narration before export.
Exporting the finished sequence
Export video turns the edited sequence into a new media file. Users choose the destination, name, resolution, quality and frame rate. The output choices include MP4 and WebM video, plus MP3 for audio.
Cloud sharing uploads an edited video and provides a link for other viewers. The program also tracks views of the shared result.
Free project limits
The free edition supports up to ten timeline scenes and exports videos up to five minutes without a watermark. PRO removes the scene limit and software watermark, adds commercial-use permission and includes priority support. Annual and lifetime licenses activate the existing application with a purchase key.
