LastPass App is the mobile front end to an encrypted password vault. It stores login records, secure notes, addresses, and payment details, then can place the matching information into supported apps and websites. This differs from saving one password inside a browser: LastPass App keeps a vault that can synchronize with other connected devices and can fill credentials outside that single browser when the operating system permits it.
The vault holds secrets
Each saved login associates a username and password with an address or app context. The password generator can create a unique value for a new account, while secure notes store text that should remain inside the vault. Saving an item does not change the password at the website; the website and LastPass record must both receive the new value during a password change.
LastPass encrypts vault data locally under the account’s security model. The master password controls access to that encrypted material. It is not another ordinary site password that support can simply read back. Recovery depends on available account and device recovery methods, so those methods need preparation before the master password is lost.
Autofill needs two switches
Mobile autofill requires setup inside LastPass App and inside the phone’s system settings. The user enables autofill in LastPass, then selects LastPass as the device’s third-party autofill source. On iOS, the suggestion can appear above the keyboard; supported Android fields can show an inline or popup choice.
An enabled vault with the wrong system provider will not fill automatically. Another password manager can also compete for the same field. Biometric or device authentication may appear before the credential enters, which protects an unlocked phone but adds a step that can look like a failed fill.
Matching controls suggestions
LastPass App uses the current website or app context to choose relevant vault items. A legitimate login on a different domain may not receive the expected suggestion, while several accounts for one service can create a list rather than an automatic choice.
Copying a password manually bypasses that matching help. It may be necessary for an unsupported field, but the user must verify the destination before pasting. A page that imitates a familiar sign-in screen can still accept text copied by hand.
Sync records current state
Connected devices can receive changes made to the vault. A newly saved login on a phone can then appear in the browser extension or web vault. Sync timing depends on connectivity and successful account access.
Editing the same item on disconnected devices can leave one cache behind the current vault state. Before deleting or replacing an important record, LastPass App should finish an online synchronization. A phone that has not synced cannot know about a password changed elsewhere.
Offline access uses cache
Offline access opens an encrypted local cache created after a successful online login. It helps when the network is unavailable, but it does not contact the service for newer changes. The cache therefore represents the last synchronized state on that device.
Account policy or local settings can disable offline use. A new phone that never completed an online login has no established cache to open. Losing network access and installing LastPass App afterward does not recreate vault data that the phone never received.
Exports need protection
Moving to another password manager may require an export. Exported credential files can lose the protections of the normal vault, depending on the chosen format and workflow. They should not remain in Downloads, cloud sync folders, or email after the transfer.
Deleting LastPass App from one phone removes that local access path, but it does not automatically delete the online account or copies on other connected devices. Account closure, device removal, and app uninstallation are separate actions with different consequences.
