Movavi Screen Recorder is a desktop capture program for Windows and macOS. It turns what happens on a computer screen into a video, an audio file or a still image. People use it for tutorials, product walkthroughs, recorded calls and webinars, and quick visual explanations. Movavi sells it as a paid program; the seven-day trial marks exported videos with a watermark.
Choosing the capture area
A recording starts with a frame. In Movavi Screen Recorder you drag this frame over a single window, stretch it to an arbitrary region, or switch to full-screen capture with one button. You can resize the edges by hand before recording begins. The frame stays visible in full-screen mode so you can see exactly what is inside the shot. You can turn off its blinking outline.
Resolution follows the display. The program records up to 4K (3840 × 2160), but only when the monitor itself runs at that resolution. A 1080p screen therefore produces at most a 1080p video. Widescreen monitors are supported.
Sound and webcam sources
The recording panel holds separate switches for system audio, the microphone and the webcam. System audio carries whatever the computer plays, such as the other participants in a call, while the microphone adds your own voice. You can capture the two together or keep them as separate tracks. You can toggle either while a recording is running. An audio level indicator shows whether the input is too quiet or close to distortion.
A noise reduction option filters background sounds out of the microphone signal during capture. Movavi Screen Recorder can also work without the screen: it records sound alone or the webcam alone.
When you combine the webcam with a screencast, it appears as a picture-in-picture overlay. You can move it, change its size and give it a circular or rectangular shape.
Showing viewers what you do
Tutorial recordings often fail because viewers cannot see where the pointer went or which shortcut was pressed. Options in Preferences let you highlight the cursor, show mouse clicks with an animation, and display pressed keys on screen as you type them.
During the recording you can also draw over the picture. You can add freehand marks, arrows, shapes and pointers in real time. They become part of the video, so there is no separate annotation pass afterwards.
Scheduled and meeting recordings
The scheduler lets Movavi Screen Recorder run unattended. You set a start date and time and either an end time or a duration. The program begins and stops the capture by itself. This suits webinars or live streams that air while you are away. A countdown in the overlay panel shows when a scheduled stop is due. A separate timer can set a time limit for an ordinary recording, before or during capture.
For video calls in Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, you frame either the meeting window or the full screen. You enable both audio sources to capture every voice. You can set up automatic recordings for recurring meetings.
Screenshots, including scrolling pages
Still images come from the same tool. A full-screen shot takes one click. You can take screenshots in the middle of a video recording without stopping it. Scrolling screenshots capture content taller than the display, such as a long web page or document, as one continuous image.
Captured images open in an editing panel where you can add text. You can also adjust the quality of JPG output. Screenshots are available in the free trial.
Trimming, saving and sharing
When you stop a recording, it opens in a preview window. Here you can trim the clip at the start, at the end or in the middle. This removes pauses and mistakes without a separate editor. A media library in the same window lists earlier recordings and screenshots, which are saved to one folder.
Videos export to MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV or animated GIF, and audio can be saved as MP3. From the preview window, you can upload videos to YouTube with a description and tags. You can then copy the link. You can also send videos and audio files to Google Drive and share them by link. You can send screenshots to WhatsApp and Telegram or share them as an image link.
For more than basic cuts, an “Open in Video Editor” button passes the recording to Movavi Video Editor, a separate product.
Trial and capture limits
The trial version of Movavi Screen Recorder includes the recording features but places a watermark on output video. It does not allow a description or tags when sharing to YouTube. A license removes these restrictions.
The program does not record copy-protected video or audio streams. It is also not intended for capturing games; Movavi directs that use to its separate Gecata recorder.
