Process Explorer Download
Process Explorer is a much needed update to the Task Manager of the past. Computer users around the world will not de disappointed with the quickest way to solve the frustrating issue of programs freezing.
Description
Most modern machines are equipped with the built-in Task Manager out of the box. Task Manager is useful for casual monitoring of your system. However, if you want to dig deeper and understand your system more, its capabilities are insufficient. A powerful third-party application can view detailed system processes and other relevant information.
Process Explorer, owned by Microsoft, does the job. Process Explorer has been the go-to computer process monitor by many Windows users for years now. According to some, it’s the only tool currently available that offers a way to truly track and view all the files and tasks an application produces.
- Process Explorer – Key Feature
- View Command Line (CL) handles
- View System DLL
- Display and kill system processes
- System defrag tool
A quick history of Process Explorer
Originally, SysInternals developed Process Explorer so users will have a way to monitor and diagnose their Windows machines. The premise is to be the advanced version of the built-in Task Manager that all computers are equipped out of the box. Later on, it gained traction from users, and in the end, from Microsoft itself. What would be a wise choice, Microsoft acquired Process Explorer and rebranded it to be part of their operating system’s tools. It was later renamed Microsoft SysInternals to commemorate the original creator of the fantastic tool. Today, it is still continuously used by Windows computer power-users and enthusiasts.
What does Process Explorer do?
Process Explorer allows users to monitor the system processes and other relevant information in a more precise and open way. Some might mistake it for the famous Task Manager. However, unlike the latter, Process Explorer shows more information such as all the files and processes an application has in a tree view. By using a tree view, monitoring system processes should be more manageable and easy to track.
Process Explorer – Major Functionalities and Features
View Command Line (CL) handles
Have you ever wondered how many files an installed application has on your computer? Well, you can find out more about it using Process Explorer. If you select the command line section, you can search for system handles. It means that an interface will show the files and their names and extensions of a particular application.
View System DLL
DLL or Dynamic Link Library files in your computer’s system contain information on configuration and other data. Installed applications on your machine will be able to access .dll files to perform specific tasks that require fetching data from the system. Process Explorer makes it easier to track down all the .dll files on your computer. It will also show you which or what DLL files an application uses.
Display and kill system processes
Older computers didn’t have a proper tool other than using the command-line to kill system processes. It is one reason that when Process Explorer arrived, many users started using it right away.
The Process Explorer tool lists the exact and detailed list of a computer’s system process (PsList). All the tasks an application is doing are included as well. If you want to free up space for other applications, you can clear a portion of your device’s memory using the process killer feature (PsKill). Also, you can end remote processes should you need to do so.
System defrag tool
Process Explorer has a built-in defrag tool. In using it, the files and data stored in your computer will be organized into smaller directories. It is useful in terms of optimizing your machine’s speed and capability to process things. Applications and tasks will load faster, resulting in your computer to be more efficient.
