Overview

Simply Draw: Learn to Draw teaches pencil drawing on paper through video lessons on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Its introductory fish course is free and repeatable. A subscription opens the broader drawing curriculum and practice content.

Learning paths

Short videos introduce a skill, then learners apply it to a character, object, or scene. Extra practice drawings revisit the technique. Lessons cover outlining, blending, shading, and texture, with a framework that moves from shape to shading and texture.

Simply Draw offers Animals, Anime, Characters, Cute Objects, and Nature paths. Anime currently requires English as the device language. Subscribers can change their subject track with the Switch Path control.

Playground practice

The Playground opens for subscribers after their first drawing within a learning path. It provides draw-along videos for practicing subjects outside the course sequence.

On iOS, completing drawings and learning units earns Sparks. These points raise Playground levels and open additional drawings. Learning-path steps follow separate progress rules; Sparks cannot unlock them.

Further progress opens Tips & Tricks mini-lessons. Each introduces a technique such as shading or cartoon eyes, provides guided practice, and offers an independent attempt. A follow-up suggestion points to a Playground drawing that uses the same skill.

A journal of paper drawings

After a drawing, Simply Draw invites learners to photograph it and save the image in their Journal. The camera button also accepts artwork from outside the lessons. Artwork sharing opens the device’s sharing controls, and recipients can leave comments that appear within the app.

English-speaking iOS learners can optionally send selected drawings through the teacher-message feature after completing their first few drawings. An encouraging reply follows after a wait. A Journal progress indicator shows when they can send more artwork.

Drawing together

Draw Together lets two iOS learners follow the same Playground subject side by side. Before starting, they select an existing second profile or create one. Each person makes a separate drawing and saves it to their own Journal. The app adds a Drawn Together sticker to both entries.

My Studio and Stories

On iPad, earning Sparks eventually opens My Studio in the sidebar. Learners choose drawings, follow their stages, and add decorative touches to their creations. Further drawing opens additional ways to personalize the studio. This area requires English among the iPad’s device languages.

Tom’s Stories offers short episodes that end with a drawing idea. The Stories button appears after the first subscription week, and earlier episodes remain available to replay.

Family profiles

A Simply Draw subscription supports up to five profiles with separate progress and artwork. Family members can use different devices, and signing into the same account retrieves the subscription and learning progress.

Draw-only plans cover this app. A Simply Family Plan through Simply Piano or Simply Guitar also includes Draw when learners use the same account.

The profile menu adds learners with their own avatar, name, and age. Creating a new profile starts fresh progress. Deleting a profile permanently removes its progress here and in other Simply apps that use that profile.
