Auslogics BitReplica is a file backup program for Windows that copies selected folders and file groups to another storage location. It organizes those jobs into profiles, each with its own destination, copying method and schedule. The program handles personal files such as documents, photos and music, with options for local storage, network locations and cloud synchronization.
Backup profiles
A BitReplica profile holds the choices needed to repeat a backup without selecting everything again. You can add folders directly or choose predefined categories, then give the profile a name. Sources can include internal hard drives, SSDs, USB flash drives and network drives. An external drive or networked computer can hold the resulting copy.
Separate profiles let different collections follow different rules. A folder that changes frequently can have an hourly backup, while another profile runs daily, weekly or only when started manually. Selecting a profile and running it applies its stored settings; its backup history remains associated with that profile.
File filters refine what gets copied. Auslogics BitReplica can exclude files by type or attributes, so temporary files or system files can be left out of a selected folder. It also supports launching a chosen program before or after a backup.
Full, incremental and differential backups
BitReplica offers three ways to decide how much data to copy:
- Full backup copies every selected file, whether or not it was included in an earlier backup.
- Incremental backup copies files created or modified since the previous backup.
- Differential backup copies files changed since the last full backup.
Incremental and differential backups let a profile avoid repeatedly copying files that have remained unchanged. An optional check can also detect whether files already held in a backup have been modified since the previous run.
How BitReplica handles cloud backups
Auslogics BitReplica uses a cloud service’s desktop client and local synchronization folder for cloud backups. The client carries the data between that folder and online storage. The cloud account therefore needs enough available space, and synchronization must finish before BitReplica creates a backup.
Cloud profiles use incremental backup rather than offering the same choice of copying methods as local profiles. The first run makes a full copy of the selected data; later runs add changes made since the preceding backup.
File restoration
Within a profile, the list of created backups lets you choose which backup to restore. You can restore a complete backup or open its folder to recover individual files. BitReplica saves backups as ordinary folders or optional ZIP archives, so those files can also be accessed without keeping the program installed.
Restoring a cloud backup on another computer requires the cloud client to finish downloading the backup into its local synchronization folder. BitReplica can then import the backup configuration from that folder and show the associated backups for restoration.
Profile settings can also be exported and imported separately. This preserves the backup configuration when moving to a different Windows installation. The program’s action logs can be searched by profile to find the activity of a particular backup job.
