Its SmartScreen feature warns about installers it does not recognize, which is often just a small developer rather than a real threat — but it is a fair prompt to confirm where a file came from. The most reliable source for any program is its official developer, not a third-party mirror wrapped in advertising.

The other habit worth keeping is reading installer screens rather than clicking straight through them. Free Windows software sometimes offers a toolbar, a changed search engine, or a second program during setup, and those are usually optional if you decline them deliberately.
